So instead of buying scratch tickets, I bought 4 1980 topps packs Scan added!

Pulled one of the most decent Hendersons I have ever seen, but there is a slight nick on one of the borders. AAAARRRRRRGHHHHHHHH! I will post a scan tomorrow. Just wanted to gloat! Got pretty much zippo from the rest of the packs. In one, the gum had completely evaporated into the card??

Are you going to get it graded? How would that effect the grade having that nick in it? I have never sent anything to be graded before, I was thinking if you send something in and it comes back a 9, does PSA state what kept it from being a 10.

No they don't. For what we pay for the service, in general, it would not be cost effective for them to give a report on every card they grade IMO.

Looking forward to the scan. Where did you get the packs?

Is it a nick? Or a chip from the cutting process? PSA is very flexible when grading cards with chips on the edges.

AS I type, I have sent a large scan of the Henderson to Stone, hopefully he can have it up for us tonight. I bought the packs from the local card store here in Mass. He has every pack from 1978 on. I also bought a bunch of 78 packs, which may have yeilded a PSA 9 1/4, but crapola otherwise. Bought 10 packs of 85 donruss and pulled a nice Puckett also! I think I will buy more 80 topps, and 85 donruss. The 78's were 20 bucks a pack, and the condition, centering, and star count are minimal. Maybe I was just lucky with my other pulls, but the 78's blew!

Actually it is a chip from the cutting proces, I included the pictures of the chip in the scan, it was "hanging on by a thread" and when I stuck it in the card saver, it seperated. image

There is a slight ding/ rough cut see the piece of white near the top of the holder? It was hanging a bit and seperated. even worth grading?

Looks like a borderline 8... the chipping will prevent it from being higher than that.

Give it a whirl. It's worth more slabbed as an 8 than raw, and PSA says they don't downgrade for rough cuts, so they might call it a flaw in the cutting process, in which case you shouldn't be docked and can still get a 9. Throw it in with a bunch of commons and they'll grade it, so for six bucks you can see what happens.

I think it would probably grade a 6 or 7. How would you feel if you bought that card on ebay as a PSA 8, then it arrived with the chip out of the right side?

Lick the back of that divot and paste it back on! image

Seriously, my experience has led me to believe that PSA does not downgrade much for rough cut edges. The entire edge can be rough cut and still receive a 9. With that said, that is a pretty big chunk that fell off. I would grade it and then sell it. Plenty of collectors that just want the grade on the holder and not the beauty in the card.

Sad, but true. The upper left corner looks soft as well, and the bottom two corners could be. I would guess you have a PSA 7 there, probably would sell for $20-$25 on Ebay.
