  • I have a friend that asked me to be on the look out for some Scottish coins for him. Do I have to go that far back?? And are they expensive in mid grades??

You don't have to go that far back, but when you do they get more costy. Look for stuff from the 1600s and 1700s and it will not cost as much.

King David II was the son of Robert the Bruce (Braveheart fame; William Wallace, etal.). Unfortunately, at the time his father was consolidating the Borders through strength with England, Bruce passed away, leaving young David heir at the age of 5.

Although he assumed the throne at the age of 5 in 1329, he was sent to France under the protectorship of Philip VI in 1333, and did not return until 1341. His actual rule did not begin until '41, but I don't know the era of the coins mintages.

A rather lacklustre king was poor David, as he invaded England in 1346 only to be captured and imprisoned until 1357. He died in 1371.

  • Thanks, Mac.
