"PCGS-Perfect" #1 Proof Ike Set

"PCGS Perfection" is a daunting goal.
Click #1PR.IKES
Admittedly this is a relatively smaller set, however, pcgs proof 70 Ikes become available quite rarely. The mere size of the coin, with its "smooth" design and large fields, makes finding clean examples extremely difficult.
Thank you for your assistance, Wondercoin.

Congrats on a top set. Looks like PCGS is making more PF70 Ikes.

All i can say, is I hope the price stays up in the stratosphere for you. I think these are ready for a huge tumble, but who am i to know!

Steve: Congratulations on your Perfect set!!

Yes, it does look like PCGS is "making more PR70DC Ikes". If memory serves me right - they have made (3) THIS ENTIRE YEAR for the entire series. I just finished looking at around 10,000 recently graded PR69DCAM specimens - I personally found only a handful of coins that even had an outside shot to go PR70DCAM in my opinion - but they all missed. Ikes are very tough coins to obtain in perfect PR70DC due to their size and generally imperfect planchets. Congrats again!

    STATS FOR THOSE INTERESTED:

According to the on line PCGS Pop report, PCGS has graded 56,857 PR Ikes( over 42,000 PR69DCAMS)
Out of that, now 41 PR70s (I BELIEVE ONLY AROUND A DOZEN ACTUALLY GRADED OVER THE PAST 3-4 YEARS DURING WHICH TIME THE MAJORITY OF THESE IKES WERE SUBMITTED FOR GRADING).
    1% would be 568 70s
    1/10 of 1% would be 57
So. 70s are less than 1/10 of 1% of the graded Pop, not including the tens of thousands that have been looked at by PCGS but not graded ( minimum bulk grading).

Thanks guys. True pf70 Ikes are rarities. There are only about FORTY proof 70 Ikes for the entire series, of which about 25 are somewhat evenly shared among my fellow proof Ike collectors. There has been little to no movement in these registry sets, other than a couple of 70s added by Edson and myself.
As some may know, many years ago a submission yielded 30-32 pf70 Ikes dated 1972-s and 1974-s (some of those coins did not measure up, and were subsequently bought back by pcgs, to the best of my knowledge). Since this large group of 30-32 pf70 coins was graded, only about one dozen pf70 Ikes have been made, and from what I have seen, pcgs has been incredibly strict on any proof Ike getting into a pcgs holder.
Mitch mentioned that only three have been made this year, and I believe that is true.
The percentage of pf70s vs. pf69s is one of the lowest, if not the lowest among all modern U.S. proof coinage.
Segoja, I read on a prior thread that 10 extra top-grade ms Ikes will be available at the St. Louis show. Through years of involvement with Ikes, I think seeing this many in one place is very rare indeed. Good luck with your sale.

Holy crap that is impressive. Congratulations are in order, you must be very proud.

Not to be too nitpicky, but c'mon, post the pics up. (reg sets without pics always bug me a bit, and a perfect set like that is SCREAMING to be seen by the world.)

    But most importantly, congratulations.

    GREAT job, Steve!

I gave up on proof Ikes long ago, because I had such a hard time trying to make ANY 69'simage
A 70 must be spectacular! Let alone, THAT MANY of them!imageimage

What's next on the agenda?.....MS Ikes?

I am sorry about pix. The gleam from the Ike proof 70s is astounding. So much so, that when put under bright lights, like those necessary for good digital pics, the reflective light becomes blinding. The operator/collector cannot view lighted proof 70 Ikes with the naked eye....
Seriously, I just do not have access to the equipment and capabilities necessary to produce pix that would pass the inspection of this crowd, or do the coins justice. Thanks for the nice comments. Perhaps someday pix will be available.

If you're serious about maybe getting them pictured, try to contact forum members "airplanenut" "cosmicdebris" or "russ" I know airplane nut and cosmic debris both have photo services, not sure if russ does the same, but he sure knows how to take pictures of proof coins. They all have excellent reputations as well.

It deserves to be said again.............unbelieveable accomplishment.
