Andybody know anything about vintage model bats (Jimmie Foxx)??

Hey guys... not sure if any of you have much knowledge of vintage model baseball bats, but I am trying to figure out what kind of value can be put on an old Louisville Slugger Jimmie Foxx Model Bat that I came across.

I tried to look on ebay to see if there was one, but the closest match was this...

Jimmie Foxx Bat

There are a few small differences between the bat in the auction and this one.

1) There is a # "125" under the Louisville Slugger writing in the auction. This bat has "40 H"...

2) The knob of the bat in the auction seems to have an FB on it. This bat has what looks to be a symbol...

3) The bat in the auction has G. Webb written on it... there is no writing on this bat.

Does anyone have any ideas or know what these differences mean? (125 vs. 40 H, FB vs. other symbol, G. Webb??) Thanks in advance!

EDIT: After reading the auction one more time I see that bat has "Powerized" written next to the trademark, this bat does not

I know squat about bats but I'll tell you what I have figured out.

the "powerized" was added in 1932 and signifies a pro vs. store model ("flame tempered") and they also started adding model numbers to the knob - one letter and one number. So the other bat that you have posted may pre-date 1932?

this bat may be a gamer? or definitely a pro model - if I remember correct - if the name is in script - it was ordered by the ball player and not a team/block letter name bat?

That may be a number and letter on the knob?

    just some ideas

edit: the G. Webb which is written may be placed by a previous owner of the bat?

  • Definately store model. Also, when a player is under contract with the bat company, his name is his signature. If he isnt under contract, the name is in block letters.....

which one is the store model? I think the Foxx one in the link is a pro model - the bidding seems to point in that direction?

  • the Foxx bat in the linked ebay auction is a bat that was game used by Mr. Foxx as you can see by the current bid

I have plans to win the auction, hopefully the poor title and lack of info given by the seller will help me snag it at a steal of a price which it currently is

    I agree Oddball
The bat has all the right stuff to be his gamer - whether it has a lot of good use is another story - looks like it.
Will you send it in to SCD or PSA, e.g., for authentication?

    Good luck!
