1960 Topps Question?

Does anyone know if there is any rhyme/reason for the different backs on these cards, some are white and some are grayish? Are there some that are done both ways or does it have to do with the series in which they were released. The white back ones always seem tougher to find in better condition or seem more condition sensitive in my opinion. Any thoughts? Do either carry a premium?image

1960 Topps (thanks to Dan Austin and Dave Hornish)
    1-110 CREAM BACKS
    111-198 GRAY BACKS
    199-286 CREAM BACKS
    287-374 GRAY BACKS
375-440 WHITE or GRAY or CREAM BACKS
    441-506 GRAY BACKS
    507-572 GRAY BACKS

    The above pasted from LINK

I have never seen any premiums associated with the different backs for 1960 Topps. I have never read any "reason" for doing it this way.

1960 is an odd year for variation collectors. Outside of the 5th series cards which can be found with cream, white or gray backs, there are no known variations.

There are three proof cards that differ from the regular issue cards (Hadley, Cimoli, and Throneberry), but they qualified for their own entry in the Standard Catalog apart from the 1960 Topps cards.
