Take up crack; it's less addictive and cheaper.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

If I had a budget of less than $100 and I could only buy one box of cards a year, I'd buy a hobby box of Bowman Chrome. (Come on Heritage guys, you know we can't live on one box of that)

But if you get a 100 replies, you may get 100 different answers. There is so much product out there, and some of it will cost you hundreds PER BOX. Look around and find something that appeals to your pocket book and to your eye. As a general rule, I don't buy any product by Fleer. Don't know why, I just don't like much they have. I buy mostly Upper Deck and Topps (which makes Bowman Chrome).

Best of luck and welcome to the hobby.

For another 20-30 bucks more, you can have yourself TWO boxes of Topps Heritage!! Then again, for 30-40 bucks less, you can save that and just get one box of Topps Heritage image but just as you said BigRedMachine, you cant just open one box of that stuff and who would want to?!!!
BUT...if your memories are more fond in the 70s and 80s, I would rip the Topps All Time Fan Favorites...I believe 2 autos a hobby box!!! And with that, I think you could grab up two boxes for 100.00
  • Today i was looking for the product to collect, and the heritage are simply great i bought 2 packs to start and got a santana, and 1 then and now of carl crawford. i will get 2 boxes of these.

As a big Heritage collector let me say that the amount of short prints necessary to complete the set makes it an actual budget buster!

So, altho, it's the only set I'm doing this year, I would have to say that there has to be something more reasonable and fun for this year. I also like Bowman, Bowman Chrome.
