It finally happened to me

Over the weekend I visited a garage sale a couple of blocks away from my house, I always check these out hoping that I'll have a great find. Well, it finally happened to me. I noticed a big box of 1991 topps baseball cards loose and in plastic sheets. While rummaging through them I noticed a couple of 1958 topps baseball... could this be it??? I took out all of the top layer of cards a discovered about 1000+ 1955-1970 topps baseball cards. I couldn't believe it!!! I asked the guy how much and he said $10. I quickly grabbed the box and drove home as fast as i could.

There are about 150 cards form 1952 topps - 1955 topps, 200 1958 topps, 200 1959 topps, 200 1960 topps, 100 1961 topps , 200 1963 topps football & 100 from 1964 - 1970.

I have decided to keep all of the major stars but will be selling the rest off over the weekend to make a little extra $$$ for my summer vacation.

Anyone else have story like this???

Ryan

Awesome.. I dragged my wife around to tons of garage sales last year and the only thing I found was a bunch of old Transformers and GI Joes for .50 - $1 each which I sold on eBay to the toy junkies for $10-$50 each. I dream of the day I find a shoebox full of old cards at some garage sale.. I wasn't going to bother this year but your story inspires me to keep on browsing. image

I have a ton of GI Joes from when I was a kid but I can't bear to sell them. Do most go for $10 or so? I have most all of them.

Good for you. I am happy that you scored.

Depends on the figure and if he's got all of his weapons or not.. The big named gi joes go for a minimum of $10 (at least when I sold them they were) like the original storm shadow (I got $45), snake eyes ($30), jinx, cobra comander.. If they're still in their packaging they're worth $100's

Damn I should go knock on the doors of where my old friends from 17 years ago lived.. "can I have your gi joes?" They always had much more than me. image

    my sentiments exactly. LOL

I hardly ever, actually never, go to garage sales. Always want to but never do. Spring is here and since I didn`t bother getting my fishing license again, maybe I`ll hit a few of these this year.
  • My step-father used to run a bar. An "old-timer" came in and said he was cleaning his garage and found a box of cards. He went to a card store first , so my step father, who doesn't know anything about cards, told him he could drink for free and gave him $50 cash. Some cards in the box (which of course were all ungraded at the time):

    PSA 3 1933 Jimmy Foxx
PSA 4 1954 Topps Ted Williams
PSA 5 1938 Goudey Joe DiMaggio
PSA 7 1952 Topps Walt Dropo

Tons of 1921 American Carmel cards, which I traded for 1955 Topps All Americans (which were trimmed!)
About 60% of the 1941 Play Ball Set including (Williams, Foxx, Dickey and others)
1954 Bowman Mantle (has a crease)
    1954 Bowman PeeWee Reese
and some other cards I traded for a 1969 PSA 8 Mantle, 1969 PSA 8 Yaz, and a absoltuely beautiful 1954 Jackie Robinson (that was my favorite card in my collection, until I sent it to PSA and found out someone touched up a small spot on the back with a green marker. Didn't notice it before I sent it!) Nice cetch PSA, sucks for me image
Collecting Graded Cowboys. Especially Emmitt Smith, Tony Dorsett and Troy Aikman!

Great story! I bought a pile of programs from a guy at Ft. Gordon for 450 bucks and I would estimate the value at about 3-4 grand in 1993. That's just about the best one.

Only other pretty good one - bought a 61F Bkb #46 IA for 30 bucks and PSA graded it a 9! SMR 750$.

    thanx for sharing
