Ebay scam

I checked my email this morning and saw a question from ebay member. When I opened it said: " hello i paid for this item with paypal. Please let me know the tracking #. jonathen. I had just send an item on Friday. It was received Monday. So I clicked the link. My last sale was to Michael, and before I hadn't made a sale for a month.
Anyway,AOL let me know this site was being secured due to a phising scam. "Jonathen" used a fake ebay name and the lot # was invalid. I really fell for this one. Thank god AOL improved their security features!

I got a variation of that "question from eBay member" where someone asked for a total inc. shipping, with no hint as to which auction he won. I wrote back to say "Which auction?" with no reply in several days. There may have been a "Respond" link in that email purportedly from eBay. I bet that clicking on that link would take you to a fake eBay page where you'd be asked to sign in and then your account would be hijacked..

I use AOL and AOL gives you 7 different screen names which is 7 different e-mail addresses. One address of mine is tied to my ebay and PayPal accounts. I receive these ebay phishing e-mails on this ebay address. But I also receive ebay phishing e-mails on another address that's not even tied to ebay. The bottom line is NEVER click on an e-mail link even if you are "100% sure" it's from ebay. Go to the ebay website first and then find the information there.

I think the best way out of this is to get off of AOL period!!! Their addresses get harvested faster than any other ISP.

I opened up a hotmail account seven years ago for Ebay only and I have never received a phishing email on the hotmail account. Let alone a SPAM. Ebay does not sell their email addresses. The reason that I don't get phished or SPAMMED is that I never use the account for anything but ebay. All of my other internet subscriptions are signed up on a Yahoo account that gets slammed with SPAM and phishing emails.

The only way Ebay will contact you is through their "My Messages" link on your "Me Ebay" page. Some time ago they sent out an email stating that phishing emails were causing many problems and this was their resolution. Not to send emails but to give you an area for their adds and system uptime.

Anyhow, I would set up a new email account for Ebay and see how it works.

    Good luck

I stopped using Hotmail because too much legitimate email was ending up in my spam folder. I use gmail now and it works pretty much flawlessly.

All mail programs still have major glitches in their inability to weed out bogus and junk e-mails. The spammers have figured out how to get around it with odd wording in the titles, but the bottom line is until an e-mail system with an artificial intelligence capability arrives, so it can detect e-mais that are truly spam and not reliant only on the words in the title, e-mail will continue to have problems.
