Is Levi overestating the value of this card or am I missing something beyond face value? image

I do not know the population, but that seems quite expensive for a PSA 8. I thought it was too expensive when I saw a 1967 PSA 9 Dennis Bennet for $125 price. Population of around 10 for that card I believe, but still it is a common.

  • Julen,

The McLain is not as difficult as it once was. The sales I tracked last year for PSA 8 were as follows:

    $40.00 1/23
    $54.50 2/8
    $27.50 3/15
    $77.00 5/9
    $51.00 6/6
    $39.00 7/16
    $27.00 8/2
    $26.00 9/20

PSA 9s sold for considerably more:

    $213.00 1/28
    $152.50 9/29
  • i just checked the SMR and the card is unlisted so in an 8 it is worth $20.00

Maybe since Kruk realized Randy Johnson can't win 30 games nobody in modern times can...so Denny is pciking up. lol j/k that does seem high for a 1969 PSA 8

Wow... I have one of those... and I'd sell mine instantly for $150 image

About the 31 wins... I cannot see any pitcher in the game today or in the future topping or even matching that. An NL pitcher has almost zero chance, as they are far more likely to be removed late in a game for a pinch hitter in a close game. The way pitchers are treated today, 5-man rotations, guys pulled for high pitch counts, the DH, lousy relievers, poor managerial decisions, it is rare that a pitcher will be in a position to even get 31 decisions. Heck, even Randy Johnson managed 35 starts only 4 seasons in his career, and the most decisions he ever wound up with in any of those seasons was 30 (16-14). McLain started 41 games that season, pitched 336 innings, and 28 CG's... no pitcher today will ever be allowed to do that.

Yes, the number of PSA 8s has increased but the percent in relation to submissions has not changed much.

    09/17/03...17 out of 32 submitted, 53%
    04/20/05...36 out of 65 submitted, 55%

A761506- my thoughts exactly, same for Gibson's ERA with 28 CGs that led to the mound being lowered. My jaw droped when John Kruk predicted Johnson would win 30 games this year.
