Ebay Feedback question- ASHTRAY smell

What would you guys do... I bought some cards on Ebay which arrived today. Let's say $25 or so not that price matters. They are exactly as advertised but smell like an ashtray. JUST AWFUL. I don't want to take them home and smell my house up. I realize the smell will fade but it's awful. I was thinking of leaving positive but stating something like "cards arrived as advertised but with heavy smell of smoke." Am I being too picky? What would you do?

IMO, no mention of the smoke smell is necessary... it is common for cards to stink like that if they come from a smoker, and they have no idea because everything smells like that so they are used to it, and there is nothing they can do to change it in the future.

Just lay them out, they'll air out in a couple days and that will be that. It's a disgusting thing, but it happens often. I can only imagine how horrible it must be to collect old books... a lot of those things have got to smell like something crawled in them and died.
  • This same thing happened to me last summer. I bought a good size collection from a guy. When they arrived, 2 of the 3200 count boxes smelled of heavy smoke. I just spread them out in the basement in groups of 20 or so near a dehumidifer and a small tub of charcol (old wive's tale says that this will disolve smells). After about a week, the smell was pretty much gone (and the basement didn't stink!).
  • yup, had it happen before as well. Feel free to state description was accurate but reeked of cigarette smoke. Its the truth afterall. Blame it on 420 again...
