Results of First Submission - Scans included

I sent in my first submission to PSA for grading. I thought the Ripken was an 8 (centering keeps it from a higher grade) and the Jordan a 9. I hoped that the '80 Topps Yaz and Reggie would be 10's. They are great cards. I pulled them from some vending boxes that I owned. I am suprised on the Jeter and A-Rod. I pulled both cards from wax boxes during the past month. In fact the Jordan came from the same box as the A-Rod. I have asked PSA to review the grades for both. I am sure some of you have had this experience. Has PSA reviewed the grades? Did they change their opinion? Thanks. David

I recently had the same exact problem with a 1970 Seaver card I had pulled from a pack back in 1979. They did look at the card again and it received a grade of 9.

Well done! I'm not sure I remember anyone posting their first ever grades and getting two Gem Mint 10's...and yours are on two HoFers, to boot. Congrats...and good luck with the ARod and Jeter.
  • Thanks. I have contacted PSA and they are sending the two cards to the "Head Grader" for review. I will let you know how it turns out.

    Great grades David!
Sorry to see the two key moderns weren't holdered? Did you measure them before submitting? Where did you get the cards from?

When you get the cards back, could you take the time to scan the two 10s? Super Reg and Yaz!!
Let us know how it goes with the Arod and Jeter RCs.

    thanx for sharing

  • I measured the A-Rod and Jeter. They both seemed good. I pulled both of them from wax/foil boxes that I opened around a month ago. The Jordon that graded a 9 came from the same box that A-Rod came from. I bought the boxes a couple of years ago from Steve Hart.

I will scan the Reggie (one of my favorite players) and Yaz and post the pictures when I get the cards back. I have a Henderson that is perfectly centered, no print marks and with strong corners and edges. It came from the same vending box case the Yaz and Reggie came from. It looks like a strong 9 to me. I am going to submit it next to see if I get lucky.

I recently got a card graded by PSA, it came back a 7, and for the life of me I couldn't figure out why. So on my next sub I cracked, and re-submitted it. This time it came back not graded "evidence of trimming" WTF???

You have a good eye packman. Nice grades. Very strange about your SP's. Conact PSA customer support.

  • Since I started this thread, PSA changed the 1994 SP A-Rod from "Evidence of Trimming" to a PSA 9. They are still reviewing the 1993 SP Jeter.

Nice grades- Congrats on the Arod. You should have gotten the MJ graded by BGS. I had a BGS 9 reg. holoview and got near $100 for it.

  • This regrading crap is so bizarre. If the cards are reviewed by 2 graders before assigned a grade (or not holdered) then why the helll do you have to biitch and moan and resend in to the "head grader"??? This is essentially saying the regular graders are not very qualified since the "head grader" can come to a totally different conclusion on the card.

If they are so "highly trained and certified" as dabighurt too often says, then why do they change their minds on grades?

Again I personally feel that they know a certain percentage of rejects will simply come back again thus increasing revenue for the company.

    Unreal.

Fantastic grades David. Hopefully they will change the grade on the Jeter also.

Yes, I appealed once on a vintage card and it was raised one grade.

  • PSA changed the A-Rod to a PSA 9 but not the Jeter. The Jeter card confuses me because I pulled it from a pack around a month ago and immediately put it into a cardsaver. I am happy overall about the grades. If PSA said the card was short, then I could understand better. It is difficult to understand that a card pulled from the pack could be reviewed by three different graders and held to be altered. I will re-submit the Jeter and let you know what happens.
  • I added some scans of the cards.
