PSA Grading Question?

Let's say I buy a card in PSA 8, crack it open and resubmit it and by chance it comes back a 9. Should I let PSA know of the this so that the 8 can not be taken off the population report. I was wondering if this happens and if the population #s are updated to reflect something like this. I do not think that this would happen too often, getting a 9 from an 8, but just a thougt.

Is the card a strong 8 in your opinion? I would crack it and resubmit, if that's your plan. And if it comes back a 9 or 8, you can then ship the old flip. That way you won't prejudice their grading IMO.
I was thinking, has anyone wound up with a 7 from an 8?

I was not planning on doing that, I was just wondering if someone did have that happen that the population report would reflect that there is now one less 8. I thought that if people were not letting PSA know that there could be a scew in the population report.

That's a good possibility on some cards. That's a good reason not to get too excited over pop reports IMO.
Unless of course I am holding the only PSA 10 Mantle! image

I tend not to care about the population report myself. If I need a card for my set (1967) in PSA 8 or 9 I will have to pay what I can afford, when I can afford it and what happens to be on E-bay or on the net. I know that there are some low population PSA 9s for the 67 set, so I probably will not be getting some cards in PSA 9. But some people are using the population report as though the card was numbered itslef (1 of 11) for a PSA 9. If I want to buy a card say in PSA 8 and it has a population report of 50, 80 or 100. I do not care, I still need the card to fill my set.

  • some people resubmit a card over and over until it finnaly gets the grade they want. and yes. they DO mess up the pop report.
