Nothing like getting my hopes up only to be crushed.

I listed my 1887 NGC PF64 CAMEO crown on eBay with a BIN of $1150. Someone hit the BIN. I'm very happy. Then I get this email:

<< <i>Hello! I just made a huge mistake for wich I am willing to pay a compensation fee. I thought it was the 5 pounds and not the crown. Please let me know how much I owe for the ebay fees. Again, I am sorry I made a mistake! Alex >>

Well, the Proof 5 pound is worth about $4000 so this guy must have thought he was getting quite a deal. He is very apologetic in his emails, but now I have to go through the hassle of filing to get a refund from ebay, and then relisting the item.

What a pain. At least the buyer was forthcoming about his error, but still the burden is all on you.

To the so called buyer's credit, he did PayPal me $30 to cover some of the costs of the auction.

It is a bummer but it does sound like an honest mistake-To the so called buyer's credit, he did PayPal me $30 to cover some of the costs of the auction. I don't think you would have had that response from an unethical individual.image

I really don't think anyone with much knowledge would mistake a $1000 silver crown for a $4000 gold 5 pound coin. I think he really had buyers remorse.

Sounds like it to me, at least he made an effort to cover your fees. Relist it and hope for a better outcome.image

I would concur - buyer's remorse. Anyway, he made good on a deal gone wrong. I hope you get your piece sold as planned.
