1952 Topps Mickey Mantle PSA 6 on ebay...

Certainly, I am no super sleuth, but I was browsing through the
MastroNet, Inc.'s action and saw that a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle
PSA 6 sold for $12650.00. I think SMR is $10,000.00. Not too bad.

Here is a link to the auction. The PSA serial number is 07002834.

So then I am checking on ebay for 1952 Topps Mantles and come
across an auction for a PSA 6. The serial number is also 07002834.
Here is the link.

Do you guys think this a pure fraud. I SUPPOSE it is conceivable that
the person who purchased the MastroNet auction is now selling it on
ebay.

I do note that it is a private auction and the seller hasn't sold an item
since about November 2004. Additionally, the seller has sold a lot of
private auction. Check this out.

Saucerjack feedback from buyers.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

$2,200 more then last year! What can you buy that grows $200 per month?

I guess math is not his bag so he tried dealing in high end baseball cards. On another note- fraud...

I will have to say that it is a great looking 6!!
I doubt the guy is in possession of the card yet...although he may be the owner and "borrowed" the scans from the auction.
I emailed the buyer - he says "he is selling it for his son" - I asked him how long his son has had the card.
Just trying to see what he says.

You caught this little s-o-b scammer red-handed. Very nicely done!

He's also auctioning another 52 Mantle!

    Maybe he'll do a two-for-the-price-of-one deal on the 52 Mantles - LOL
  • In this auction he is selling a PSA graded Mantle, check out his other Mantle auction graded by
AAA. He go's as far as saying that, " If you have it graded, do it in person, grading co's have been
known to switch cards ( like the PSA scandal etc ). "

IN the PSA 6 auction, he not only borrowed the scans as Mike has mentioned, but also much of the linguistic description that only Mastronet seems to be able to muster up.

Just got an email from the seller:

<< <i>HE GOT IT AT MASTRONET AUCTION HOUSE... >>

So the guy may be looking for the quick flip - but you can pretty much bet that if the card doesn't go for more than the investment, it will "mysteriously" become unavailable!

Or the guy is an experienced scammer and was expecting this and was ready with an honest answer to throw off the skeptics.

IF you check his recent buys, you will see that he buys a lot of reprints which its weird, but the really weird part is that he buys a lot of cheap cards like PSA 7 and 6 from the 80's mostly for under 3 dollars each.

maybe its nothing, but what if he its buying these cheap cards for the slabs, breaking them up and seeing which one opens without a lot of snow, inserting the reprints and then manufacturing some home made flips?

a very amateur WIGWAG in the making?

    caveat emptor!

Looked at his feedback and noticed efigures (erinefigures) is now a NARU. I guess they finally cracked down on his photocopies. He made thousands of dollars with an inkjet printer and poprivet gun selling to scammers lol.
  • The seller ended the listing early....for both of his Mantles.

When you email a guy and ask "subtle" questions, sometimes that spooks them more than acusing them of being a scammer. I emailed him back and told him to give me a new scan when the card comes in since I had concerns about the "Mastro" scan.
