I need your opinion - Pujols or ARod RC?

I need your opinion. I own a 1994 Leaf Limited Alex Rodriguez. I got it out of a pack, and sent it to PSA. It came back a 9.

Now, being a Cardinal fan, I would love to own a 2001 Pujols autographed rookie card (any brand). I could even buy a raw one and send it in to PSA and hope for a high grade. But I'm not going to fork out $250 and up for one, unless I sold the ARod and used that money.

I am sure I could list the ARod on Ebay and get $250 to $300. If I asked the question "What should I do?", I know what the answer would be. "If you would rather have the Pujols, then sell the ARod, and buy a Pujols with that money."

Yes, I would rather have a Pujols, but here is the question.

Which card would have the most potential 10 to 20 years from now - a 1994 Leaf ARod PSA 9, or a 2001 Pujols autographed rookie. I am thinking maybe a Topps Finest which would be in that range. Also in that range right now on Ebay is a 2001 Fleer Showcase Sweet Sigs Lumber Edition. (CAN SOMEONE ALSO TELL ME IF THAT IS A PIECE OF GAME USED BAT THAT HE AUTOGRAPHED OR IS THAT JUST WOOD FOR A GIMMICK?)

Any feedback on this would be appreciated, unless someone has one laying around collecting dust that they just want to mail me. I could PM my mailing address!imageimage

  • isnt arod's big rookie card the SP die cut??

anyway, ARod has more years on him. Even though pujols is on such a incredible pace in terms of homeruns, rbis, BA, etc...he may end up like frank thomas or juan gonzalez. ARod at least has been around for a decade...has an MVP trophy....and is well on pace to break some records. Pujols may be worth more now....but so was thomas in comparison to bonds in the mid 90's.

if you're simply looking for which player will hold more value....i would go arod just because of what hes done so far and the 6-7 years he has on pujols.

Personally, I think Pujols has more of a future, but like Major Dan says you never know. He could get injured or go nuts or get lazy or whatever. But, this is supposed to be for enjoyment. Sounds like you'd just plain get more enjoyment out of having the Pujols. You can drive yourself crazy trying to guess what's going to happen 10 or 20 years from now. Isn't the world supposed to end before then anyway?

I think Major Dan makes a good point. You really never know what the future will bring, there's no better example than Frank Thomas. And even if Pujols hits 42 home runs a year for the next five years, barring no slump or injury, he's still behind Arod if Arod never hits another one. I realize Pujols and Arod both will probably be hitting 40+ for another decade, but I thought the same thing about Griffey Jr. You never know.

But if Pujols is your man, I'd buy a Pujols. Collecting should be about what you enjoy most. If you're looking from a business perspective, I think that's another reason to buy an Arod. I think if you bought a Pujols auto'd rookie, you'd be buying high. He's hot. The BC auto rookie books for $1600 now!!! I mean how high will that thing go?

They both have the potential to set some major records at their current paces, so maybe you can't go wrong on either one. Save up and own both!!

I think you should just do whatever your collector heart wants.. If you would much rather have the Pujols.. then sell the arod and get the pujols.. Why bother having something that you won't enjoy vs something you would..
