Heavyweight Boxing Match You Want To See

DirtyHarryDirtyHarry Posts: 1,917 ✭✭✭
Yes, boxing is a sport. I'm a big fan and we discuss this from time to time when a big match is coming up. We know the outcomes of some of the the big fights (ie - Ali/Frazier, Tyson/Holyfield), but how about your opinions on a fight that has never happened. Pick your two opponents, who will win...and why.

Pick From:
Jack Johnson
Gene Tunney
Jack Dempsey
Joe Louis
Rocky Marciano
Sonny Liston
Floyd Patterson
Muhammed Ali
Joe Frazier
Ken Norton
George Foreman
Larry Holmes
Mike Tyson
Evander Holyfield
Lennox Lewis

You're probably familiar with the five knockdown fight with George Foreman and Ron Lyle. I watched that fight live on TV. Best fight I ever saw. That being said George Foreman and Mike Tyson in their primes would've been a hell of a fight. Probably Foreman the winner.
  • Jack Johnson-Mike Tyson. Johnson would cream Tyson, just because he is an idiot.

The real Rocky was awesome and one heck of a fighter, but Ali in his prime is the best heavyweight of all time - and it's not even that close or debatable in my opinion.
  • I try to watch all the Ali fights that ESPN Classic airs. I've seen maybe 20 of his fights. It's no fluke that he's called the Greatest. That being said, it would be interesting to see a round robin tournament of the all time greats when they were all in their primes. I have not seen too many of the fighters before the Ali/Foreman era so I'm not too familiar with about half the list besides just knowing they were champs.

    I would like to see:

Jack Johnson VS Muhammed Ali - Ali is "The Greatest" but Johnson trained to fight 20-30 rounds and was an animal. I think Johnson would knock him out in the 15th round.

Marciano VS Holyfield - both light in the weight class. I would love to see them go toe-to-toe -- their trademarks. Close in fighting to the death. Rocky wins.

Mike Tyson VS anyone - he get's the piss beat out of him from a real heavyweight champ. In addition to his recent defeats, a young George Foreman would knock his ass into the ground. Frazier kills him and Ali tortures him. Regards.

    Tunney VS Marciano

Probably the two most under-rated heavywt. champs ever !

Tunney, quite a remarkable record against true stars, Rocky was undefeated, the only one EVER, competetion ? Who was undefeated in school-yard fights, let alone professional heavywts. ?

However, if the Mob was not in his corner, Sonny Liston was probably the most awesome fighter there could be. He would destroy Clay / Ali in a "fair" match. Not a very well liked or popular guy, but a real monster, a big Jack Dempsey, a mean Joe Louis, a smart Mike Tyson, Etc.

Jax - I like your comments. I am a Sonny Liston man/fan. He had great skills and power. Unfortunately, I think his career was corrupted and he went along...paid the price in the long run.

I want to see the Fridge v Minute Bol again, and this time instead of the winner getting a pat on the back, I want the prize
to be a big turkey sandwich so the Fridge won't show up scared again!

Oh please...If you don't like Ali...Fine. I'm not exactly a big fan of his but he's clearly the best heavyweight of all time and he easily beat Liston twice. Liston was similar to Tyson in style and Ali would have also beaten Tyson easily.
