<< <i>We have to use real email addresses.
You only need it once to register. Just get a throwaway account at Hotmail or Yahoo.
You state that, but then a guy has an ID about donkey penis??

The victory has been won, it seems to me, as far as the coin market is concerned. And congrats for your part.
Isn't this beating a dead horse, though?
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...

Or a donkey!

The horse isn't dead until the Judge hits it over the head with the gavel.

It's a long way from over, look at my link below, ACG vs. The Numismatic World. These people are creating a lot of grief for honest people, and I believe a place for those people to communicate is needed.
In reference to the user IDs, I've nuked two of them. The board is not for using the kind of IDs one would expect from a teenager.
<< <i>lol! Do I see an addendum to a lawsuit and a new "Defendent" on the horizon? Can you sue the computer that hosts the site? >>
Neil, the Communications Decency Act of 1996 prohibits the suing of a message board operator for content posted on a message board.
<< <i>My suspicion is that everyone wants to pile on, but everyone's afraid of being added on to the lawsuit. >>
I went to great lengths to find a host and a message board program that would allow for people to register anonymously. For anyone who wants to discuss ACG without getting sued, it just a simple matter of picking a user ID that no one will recognize, use a throwaway email account, and not fill in the identifying information in the user ID profile.

Still probably won't stop them.

It says on there that IP addys ARE logged. Also, how can you bam smoebody if you don't know their IP?
This particular program allows you to bam with just the user ID.
Isn't this precisely what got you guys into trouble in the first place? For crying-out-loud, get a life already.

<< <i> Where does it say IP addresses are logged? I'm not logging any and I have logging disabled for the message board. >>

I know this is boilerplate and not your personal conditions (I also administer a phpBB board), but this is what people see.

IP addresses are NOT logged, and they are not logged for obvious reasons.
<< <i>Oh man - haven't you taken enough of a beating with this?
"Thank you sir, may I have another!" >>
Beating? What beating?
I assume the lawsuits cost you something financially. Personally, I like to hold on to my money.

<< <i>Eric,

I have a higher preference for freedom of speech, and the right to complain about what I feel is a shoddy product.
<< <i>I sense a lot of paranoia about people being able to say what they feel in a digital public forum......
I get that feeling too. I've spent weeks working on this project to shield people from being identified. It took just the right combination of board program and web host to do it. Obviously, I overlooked the registration boilerplate. I'll correct that tomorrow. Right now I'm tired of playing with php script.
<< <i><< I sense a lot of paranoia about people being able to say what they feel in a digital public forum...... >> >>
I don't know, you ban your 1st 2 posters! Maybe it's a ploy by ACG to collect information and someone hi-jacked Eric's account!

Marty, I set the board up for serious discussion. I won't allow it to degenerate into something that looks like a junior high school student pissing contest. Any topic is fair game, even for those who disagree with me. But I am not putting up with juvenile BS.

I am MadMarty@au58weeniecoins.com. I'm registering to say that ACG sucks!
Seriously, I'm creating a dummy account with no incoming e-mail (after I acknowledge the response) on a domain I administer for this. I'm looking forward to taking the gloves off.
It should be a warning about all Third World grading services, instead.
Oh, wait- that's what this site is.

Like I said, it's open to anyone, even those who disagree with me.

Valid email addresses are no longer required to join. You can use a bogus address, but be advised you won't be able to get any email notifications.
Again, and I can't stress this enough, IP addresses are not logged.
<< <i>ACG is old news, thankfully. >>
As long as there is still a pending lawsuit, ACG is decidedly not old news. For many on this board, ACG is very current news.

This was exactly my thought when I first read this thread. I'll bet the ACG lawyers love it, it gives them one more arrow to shoot back.
Case law is firmly established in regards to the protection of consumers who post "sucks" sites, especially when said companies do not own the trademarks, such is the case with ACG.
Now you tell me which is more legally damaging, K6AZ posting a product "sucks" site, or ASA-Accugrade posting my personal information on their site, including my full social security number.
Two wrongs don't make a right.
IMO the proliferation of new TPG's with unknown and/or unheard of standards is far worse than the "alleged" ills of ACG. This is not to say that there wasn't a concern over the grading standards of ACG particularly when it came to MS grades but I think what we have now is far worse.
The ACG message board smacks of the same kind of thinking that goes into Laura's wannabe threads. I think they are both bad ideas.
I wonder if Laura will post to this thread.
Joe.
