Something good about A-Rod

Nice to see he uses those arms for reasons OTHER than swatting balls out of other player's gloves!

Pretty ballsy to be walking around Boston image

Good story.. He's still a jerk though.

  • When I first read it, I didn't know what was more unbelievable...the fact that out of all the people in Boston, it was A-Rod who saved this kid...or out of all the people in Boston, the kid he saved just happened to be an A-Rod fan!

I was the driver. I was trying to hit A-scrod but then the kid came out of nowhere!

The guy is a human being before donning pinstripes. All else is knucklehead commentary. Nice job A-Rod, and thank you.

And you know this how? The guy pleaded wth Selig to let him out of Texas...willing to defer millions to go to boston. The commish refused.

Everything I've ever read and heard about this guy is class. Did you hear him putting up a fuss about moving to third? Not a peep. Ever hear of him getting into a drunken brawl, hitting his wife, ANYTHING negative?

Is he a jerk for taking the contract that paid him such an obscene amount of money? Would any one of us turned it down?

Try showing some restraint next time before making such an assenine comment.

Axtell on target. How about Arod switching positions at the All Star game with Ripken.....3rd vs SS, basis his respect for Cal. He's not a bad guy. He's a good guy. The rest is just emotional team BS and jealousy.

How is this guy a jerk? Probably because people follow the medias ramblings like sheep and scorn the man for making for money than all of their decendents combined.

The title of this stupid thread says it all.

Axtell, my opinion of him is based on meeting him when I was 14ish. He was the biggest jerk I had ever met. That's just my opinion of him.. you have yours, I have mine.. big deal. Try showing some restraint next time before rambling on all defensive over something so miniscule.

Obviously not something miniscule when you attempt to berate something over something that happened what, 2 years ago?

Not to throw fuel on the fire - but A-Rod is hardly the most liked man in baseball. This, from his peers as well as fans.

For one, the crap the Red Sox are spewing (especially that loud mouth Schilling) about A-Rod is just that, crap.

You'd think as a mariner fan I'd be bitter for A-Rod bailing to the rangers? Are you kidding? Would anyone in their right mind turn down $25 million a year?

And I think that jealousy plays a huge role in what a lot of people think about him (fans and players alike). He's a great player, puts up great numbers, and doesn't get into trouble. And for that people whine and complain about him being amped up about the game?

  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
Actually, baseball being a team sport, you might say A-Rod is a great individual player - but a great overall team player? So far, no.

<< <i>Let's assess Alex's record for whammy-worthiness. After 11 years in the major leagues, the Best Player in Baseball has never won a pennant, much less a World Series (the Bambino's gold-standard criterion). In league championship play, his teams have gone 0-3, including, of course, the Biggest Choke in Pro Sports History.

Furthermore, it has become clear that the secret to success in baseball is getting rid of A-Rod. During his seven years in Seattle (1994-2000), the Mariners played .488 ball, averaging 79 wins per season. In 2001, when A-Rod packed for Texas, $252 million richer, the Mariners promptly tied a major-league record (set by the 1906 Cubs) with 116 wins and a .716 winning percentage. With A-Rod aboard and despite his 2003 MVP year, the Texas Rangers averaged only 72 wins (.444) for the next three seasons. Soon, Alex became the first reigning MVP in baseball history to be traded. (Did the Rangers know something?) Once he left for New York, Texas surged to 89 victories in 2004, their most wins since, well, the 20th century.

The above from the Boston Globe 04/03/2005.

The Mariners and Rangers success had nothing to do with the departure of A-rod. Nothing against ya ctsox but 89 wins by an already up and coming team is hardly noteworthy. The Mariners were already a great club and won the 116 games soon after losing Ken Griffey Jr, AND Randy Johnson also. And, New Englanders have had this A-Rod myth pounded into them so hard since he left them at the alter (thats right, everyone of ya wanted him) by the relentless and absurd Boston media that it makes you wonder if a Children of the Corn type brain washing of an entire region is possible. image

Believe me, when he was on the verge of signing with Boston, I couldn't have been more excited. But, looking back now, it just doesn't seem possible that the Sox would have won last year with him. And, I realize that a lot of us Boston fans are making a lot of this A-Rod curse thing - but, hey...it's our turn now for some curse talk! You guys have been using that one for a while... image

I don't want to beat this into the ground. I was just trying to illustrate the point that A-Rod has a lot of issues within the league, and with many fans. Some of these issues are real, some are imagined. He is still without question, a top player in all respects.

Ctsox, you bet its your turn to talk. And all of you BoSox fans deserve it. Enjoy!

Still, you would think A-rod was a murderer the way Boston reacts to him. Its crazy, the guy has never done a thing wrong. Besides leave Boston at the alter, thus the venom from you crazy people image

I wouldn't even say it was Arod leaving Boston at the altar....a more accurate picture would be Bud Selig refusing to permit the ceremony.

Arod wanted to go to boston. Not his fault Selig wouldn't let him take a pay cut or Boston for not going all in on his salary.

Yes, one championship in EIGHTY SIX GOD FORSAKEN YEARS. Pity the poor cursed Yankees! image

Who knows? If the Red Sox win another one in the next 10 years, they'll have caught up with the mighty Florida Marlins! image

The Red Sox would have had a slightly better chance with A-Rod than without him. As it turned out they didn't need him.

The Yankees were made stronger by his arrival and he would absolutely been an upgrade to the Nomar/Orlando combination over the course of the season.

Yankees fans can complain about A-Rod all they want, but if he doesn't deliver in the 12th against the Twins in game two of the ALDS they would never had gotten the oppurtunity to make history.

You are correct. Thanks very much Alex! image

  • You guys are forgetting one thing. If A-Rod came to Boston, Manny would have been gone.....and along with him the Series Victory.

    JMO, Bob

And to anyone who gets annoyed by Yankees or Sox fans talking smack about the other teams stars.......WTF.....lighten up man!
