Best $20 I ever spent

I could not contain my excitement so I thought I would share. I recently purchased a 1969 and 1970 Topps Tony Perez card on Ebay for a combined $20. I just got my grades back. The 1969 came back PSA 10 and the 1970 PSA 9, both 1 of 1s. This makes up for many many past disappointing submissions.

Thats great. I have about 300 1969 Perez cards, all cut short on the right. Thats a super card in 10.

300, sitting on a mountain of cards. I have probably looked at 300 and submitted 15 best before this was 8.

How were those two cards described?
  • mcholkemcholke Posts: 1,000 ✭✭
Steve very little description just photos that were tough to see. I ended up asking a few questions of the seller and he told me they were in great shape so I took a flyer.

  • Just curious, were they advertised as MINT on ebay? Just asking because I have received 10's on cards that were advertised only as near mint and even excellent that, when received, seemed perfect and were graded as such.

    Thanks and great job!!

I just went back to find the listing and too much time has passed and I cannot find exact language but I can tell you but I believe they used pack fresh and refrained from stating mint. Just from memory though.

Holy jumpin' jehosephat! Most raw cards from strangers on eBay, you're lucky if they earn a 7 when the seller called 'em mint. Run out and buy a lottery ticket NOW, my friend, because the angels are smiling on you.

Good question. I purchased the cards am while ago and set them aside until I had enough for a submission to PSA. Due to the time between purchase and submission, it is no longer showing up as an active transaction when I search. Because of the volume of transaction I did in the past 6 months, I have not found it again to try and see if the seller has any more vintage cards. It was a seller with less than 100 feedback is all I remember.

if you left THEM feedback it would be listed in your feedback listing for feedback you left for others. you might remember it if you see it there.

Thanks for the suggestion, I found the listings again. I actually stand corrected, total purchase price was only $6.00 and not the $20 I was thinking of. Here are the item numbers from Ebay, I could not figure out how to do the link.

The more I look at the 1969 I am not positive this is the one that got the 10. I submitted a couple one got an 8 and the other a 10. The other one I submitted also came from Ebay for around $20. Enough on my end trying to figure out how I pulled this off and more focusing on how to find a Perez in PSA 9 for 1967 or 1968. Any leads out there?

looks like the 1970 would be the 10 not the 1969.

The 70 Perez has not 9's or 10's.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Best $20 I spent was a grocery rack pack of 1984 Topps football bought in 2000 or so at a local card show.
Got the Elway - Came back a 9
Got the Marino Instant replay got a 10
Got the Marino Passing leader and got a 9

All sold years ago for a heavy profit. I still have the remainder of the pack except for about 3 or 4 nasty centered cards.

It will have a PSA 9 when the POP report updates Monday morning. It is cert #90445760. The 1969 10 is cert # 90445755

    I'm still looking for a '65 in a 9...
