Advertised as a Stephen penny struck during the inderdict of 1148 from defaced dies. Reportedly found in Nottingham and thought to be from the Nottingham mint.

However, i stumbled upon something last night whilst searching the net; that suggested that indeed these coins were struck at Nottingham (amongst other places) and that the Nottingham mint ones could not have been struck in 1148 as Nottingham was burned down during 1140 by Matilda's forces (whom were fighting Stephen for the throne). Thus the coin must have been struck by a Matilda supporter in 1140 as Matilda only arrived in England in September 1139.

Good stuff eh? The legends are near obliterated which was a method of undermining Stephen's claim to the throne by challeging his authority.
