Anglo-Saxon coin advice...

Okay chaps i've been looking around for one of these since i was 8, okay i could never have afforded one all those years ago but it never stopped me looking did it?

Finally now i am in a position to actually purchase one, and one has finally turned up after 13 years without ever having seen one for sale.

Some of you may have noticed a few days ago i made a post in an Anglo-Saxon thread stating i had been looking for an Athelstan penny, well i went on a major trawl across the whole internet and yep i found one. Success!

BUT

At £750? What's a decent price on one of these?

I want one of these so bad i've just sold off the whole on my post 1694 sixpences, every last one, as well as a quarter laurel and a Philip and Mary groat so that i could foot the bill for it should i decide to buy it, if it's genuine and worth the price.

Well what do you guys think? (Should i buy it or should i wait another 13 years?)

    Yep

Just airing it a little more, last thing i'd hate to do is to buy it and then someone say, well Si you bought a dud there.

Or what the hell is that supposed to be?

Looks right to the book though. I've contacted the seller already and stated i was interested. Just waiting for a bit of advice, 13 years of looking so another couple of days ain't gonna do much harm is it?

Just a caution, the wanting is usually better than the having.

Isn't it always? It's a risk i'm prepared to take.

Even if it's not a coin i buy for keeps (very few coins i buy are), i buy most of my coins to say, "i used to have one of those", i honestly can't afford to have all the coins i want at the same time, so i take turns in owning them.

If i buy it and i like it i'll keep it, if i buy it and i lose the initial interest then i'll be glad at least that i've had one at some point.

It doesn't, after having sold all my sxpences and a few other coins that i'd been debating about selling off for a while, i've got enough to buy it and also to replace most of the money i've just forked out for that defaced die King Stephen penny. (Pics to follow) So the budget is fairly balanced to the penny almost. (Pun intended!) image
