That's what playing 86 straight seasons at $1 million per year will get you. Good job Candy Man. Wait, that was John Candelaria. What was Candiotti's nickname?

What? No t206 Honus Wagner? Hang your head in shame Tom Candiotti.

  • << <i>Hang your head in shame Tom Candiotti >>

he did that a lot in a dodgers uniform...

    ziiiinnngg!
  • Man i would give my left nut (not that after being married for 10 years has any use) for that Mathewson or Cobb...or any card for that matter!! must be niceimage
  • Now this is a post i've been waiting for!!

    1938 Goudey Joe-D's

this guy has 2 of the 4 total 9s.
memory lane has another 9 (my insiders tell me image)

So this leaves only a single 9 left in the world.

This set is so underrated it blows my mind. Everyone please continue to stay away from it!!

What an amazing collection! Tom Candiotti must have one of the finest collections in the world along with Fogel, Merkel and Siegel.
  • Not to sound like a ninny or a jealous curmudgeon. I've always hated comparing my collection to others. Give anyone millions of $$$ like Olberman or Candiotti and they can come up with a world class collection, that's not what collecting is all about.

According to baseball-reference.com, his contracts totalled $31,875,000 over 14 seasons. This doesn't include all the other things like MLBPA royalty money, which could be tens of thousands of dollars per year, and I think he's an announcer now, so that's probably a couple hundred K. I'm sure he's got other investments, too. Tom's doing OK. He bought the 1954 Aaron 10 for, what was it, $110,000 a couple years ago? I think he'll come out ahead if he tries to sell.

It's not the most valuable, but I think if I could talk him into a trade of one of his cards for, like, my whole collection and my car, I would want the Plank card most of all. Something about that card intrigues me.
    WANTED:
2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25
2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs

    Nothing on ebay

I'm not a club member, merely a set registrant, and I get the email regularly.

I am both (submitter and set registrant) and have never even heard of the PSA Insider.

While I admire such an amazing array of cards, I tend to agree with the above. It isn't really collecting if you have unlimited means, and people doing your buying (and looking) for you.

The PSA 8 T206 Wagner that Brian Siegel owns is far and away the greatest card. Tom Candiotti essentially has the next 25 greatest and most important cards. I think if he can pry the Wagner away from Siegel, there will be no doubt that Candiotti's collection is number one.

Tom is obviously a very astute investor. He played the game and obviously loves it too. Its always great to see a ex-player "stay in the game" this way.

    Good for you.
  • huh? thousands of people have millions to burn, only a few blow it on cardboard. these are fantastic collections. don't tell me if you won the lottery you would grab a few of the high end mother of all cards. don't be so bitter!! we all spend what we can, some just have more resources!

I didn't know there was a PSA 8 Plank. I thought the 7 was the highest graded.

I posted this in awe and I can understand how many feel. The fact that Candiotti has more money to spend on his collection does not make him less of a collector IMO.

This is his top 25 and I would not be surprised if he owned a 89UD Griffey RC in his collection e.g.
Those cards are the true investor grade cards that will almost guarantee a good return. The 52T PSA 10 Mantle has climbed very well since the early 90s.

The guy is most likely a good collector and an able investor of the finest out there IMO. And BTW, I would not be surprised if he were not an underbidder along with Keith for the PSA 8 Wagner.

    I've got you here:

I am a submitter, researcher, multiple set registrant, a long time member and contributing writer. Yet I don't get any emails (probably need to check something), didn't get an invite to the national luncheon, don't get auction catalogs, don't get about half of the SMR's without calling and have never even got a thank you.

    My whine for the day!

I agree with stone- you can't say somebody's not a collector because they have enough money to buy all the best cards. If PSA came to your house and said they wanted to do a piece on your collection are you going to say no? Plus, if I had that kind of money I'd have a crazy collection like he does. Now, if I can just figure out a way to win the World Series of Poker this year............

  • win - interesting take. I don't agree, but I can see your point of view. But can you elaborate on what is collecting all about to you?
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
For all that think I was saying the above I was QUOTING an earlier poster..........that is why MY REPLY was "IT IS FOR THEM" I could care less what people spend on their hobbys.

My mistake I should have used the italics thingy.............and besides I have no idea how to spell 'curmudgion" or what it even means. .
    Good for you.

Lesson I learned from all this...

******Major League Baseball Players are overpaid!*********

By the way, isn't that guy Mankawankawicz from Boston (now Mets) still holding on to the game ending world series baseball from the world series last yr "so he could put his kids through college". What a wanker!

At least Candiotti is putting some of his "hard earned" money back into the game by investing in memorabilia. I give him credit for that.
