It's interesting that Candiotti's the guy that's keeping the owner of the PSA 8 T206 Wagner from completing his run of PSA 8 T206 hall of famers.....he's got all of 'em except the Plank.

Also interesting to think that the guy with the PSA 8 Wagner is the guy keeping Candiotti from owning it. I'm sure there has been more than one discussion between those two, and I would think they would have come to a mutual agreement some time ago.
  • wow, at least there is one ball player whos not throwing his money away in depreciating assets, guess he wont see the welfare line for awhile.

    Unreal collection..psa 10 1952 mickey mantle...there are 3 of them...fogel, candy, and ?

is it 2 psa 10 willie mays 1952 topps or is it just stated twice by mistake?

    yea real nice.

how does his collection stack up against Gary Carter's?

If they had to battle over rookie cards, I guess Gary has the upper hand on that one huh?

I thought this quote was a bit odd considering in the paragraph above it he crowes about what a great onvestment the Plank was:

says that he is a bit disappointed that kids today seem to be more concerned with the monetary value of a card than what the players mean to them. "When I was growing up, I never gave any thought to what a card might be worth. But, I guess that's how the hobby has evolved.

    Loves me some shiny!

  • Interesting article, although it would be nice if SMR didn't throw in all the self-serving crap:

<< <i>"...I realized that PSA was providing a great service for collectors. PSA takes the guesswork out of purchasing cards." >>

<< <i>Along with the help of hobby pros like Fogel, Tom says the PSA population report has also been extremely helpful to him. >>

<< <i>"Overall, I think the sportscard hobby is in great shape. PSA has helped make it better and has given people who had become frustrated a reason to get back into it." >>

Sounds a bit too much like an infomercial to me.
  • I didn't realize Gary Carter was a big collector?

Maybe we could broker a deal?
  • Baseball Reference for Candiotti - Career (may be incomplete) $31,875,000

4-7.5 Million in the top 25 of his collection sunk in, representing 13%-24% of his playing days total salary. Guy must have some good investments or rental properties.....
Now looking for a 1950 Bowman Baseball Box as pictured below.

Brain Seigel the owner of the wagner once said he had gotten offers for 2 mill+ for the card, i wonder if Tom was the one who made made an offer.

with 30 mill you dont have to be a genious at investing, even with a pretty mediocre firm you would still make over a quater million a year just from interest alone
