Just hit 50% on my 1959 Topps football set

With a GPA of 7.98 (under Greg Montieth's collection). Since I started collecting the set nearly a year ago, I feel that I have grown as a collector. Based largely upon collectors' comments on the boards, I have learned to buy the card and not the holder and focus my collection on high end PSA 8 cards with centering of 60/40 or better.

My collecting goals are to eventually collect every major football set from 1935 National Chicle to 1986 Topps. Even though I'm less than 1% towards my goal, I am pleased with my collection. Just thought I'd share.

Regards,

Greg M.

Thanks Jay. By the way, I'm looking for a nicely centered PSA 8 Sam Huff rookie. Please let me know if you come across one.

    Nice job gregm13
Just so you understand, the baseball guys are a bunch of softies.

Us football guys are cut-throat all the way.
If you're looking for a deal or a break, look elsewhere,
cause there's seldom any to be found in these here parts ...... image

    Wolfy,

I'm up to the challenge. As soon as I get the 1950's bug out of my system (and I'm finished with my adoption...which will free up some card collecting $ image I plan on hitting the 1960's pretty hard. Having said that, I'm getting a little nervous of MOSH lurking in the background of many sets that I'm collecting.

Anyways, I plan on being around for quite a while and look forward to facing many of you on the field of battle.

    Regards,

    Greg M.

Speaking of 1959's and buying cards instead of holders, check out this Jim Brown.
It just goes to show that you don't have to collect 8's, 9's, and 10's to own great looking cards :

  • That is a great looking Brown. On the subject of Football cards, I have been contemplating collecting the '50 Bowman Football set when I am done the Baseball side. That football set is gorgeous, some great looking cards!
Now looking for a 1950 Bowman Baseball Box as pictured below.
