What is the difference between "chatter" and "wear" on a coin?
I posted another thread, and a nice gentleman commented on the picture that I posted.
Does anyone know what the difference between "chatter" and "wear" is (if there is any difference)? Is chatter a subset of wear or a degree of wear, or is chatter considered to be very insignificant marks that may or may not impact the grade of the coin. Thanks.

"Chatter", as used by this writer, refers to post strike abrasions/imperfections and is completely distinct from "wear".
Wear is caused by friction to the high points of a coin.
rub it between your thumb and forefinger for 10 minutes... that's wear.
tap it with the edge of another coin for 10 minutes... that's chatter.

Send it right to PCGS... that's a higher grade coin

The coins chat with one another, hence chatter.
