My latest Birthmark Die 1967 SMS Kennedy Half arrived today!

My new obsession, (not that I've abandoned my old obsession.
)

It's an NGC MS67UCAM that I picked off in a recent Heritage auction. This one brings my growing little family up to three examples.

Birthmark? Is that the one on the head? Now that's creepy.
<< <i>Nice but how much? >>
About 40% less than it's worth.

<< <i>Does Wiles talk about this one at all? >>
Nope. Tomaska does in his book, though. He uses an example on both the dust jacket and on page 42 of the plate coins.

Just curious how widely known or recognized this variety is, and in your estimation, what is the premium % on such a coin?

Currently, only specialists and SMS lovers get all hot about them. But, even with only limited interest right now they bring a pretty good premium in the 25% range.

If the coin becomes more widely publicized, do not be surprised if the persons who see a "Conspiracy" everywhere they look claim that the production of these coins by the Mint is somehow involved in the conspiracy surrounding the assasination of JFK.
If so, then in addition to marketing the coins to coin collectors, a separate and distinct group of persons consisting of JFK conspiracy enthusiasts would also want to acquire these coins. Think of the skyrocketing prices and the money to be made by Russ and others of his ilk.
