Madmarty- those certification costs

You have a lightside background but you should have been a Darksider from day one-love your sense of humor and eclectic coin choices.

Do you find you can recover the costs of certifying your coins, both in your collection and in your daily sales?

If you can, I think Krause needs to elevate their values, or, I need to re-evaluate the price I pay for coins. Such a re-evaluation might cause a schism between my coin store and myself. I pay usually 10% under Krause on all the coins I buy locally, both the common and uncommon, more desireable coins.

How do you do it? Or is the market for the MS mid-range Darkside Certified that strong?

Most of the darkside MS stuff I have made myself. I'm always looking out for it at shows! As far as the slabbed stuff I have picked up, I really think the secret is to NEVER let the dealer open the Krause! Most of them have had this stuff forever and priced it years ago! So of course you offer them 50% of the price listed (and old one) and you get a bargain! The dealer who had the proof Phil coins had them priced when they were $40 each in the Krause, so $100 for the set of 5 was just about right.

As far as sending them in for slabbing, it keeps the coins from getting damaged and the fit into the boxes just right.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Hah! My dealer lives with an open Krause! 3 volumes of them, always re-checking, re-pricing-he is very, very aware. My bad luck, huh?
