He is a very likeable player and was an excellent first baseman. I am not sure if he can find his power stroke anymore or if his best years are indeed behind him.

He still has a great glove and can get on base. I would have liked to see him on the Yankees this season, but they have Martinez, Giambi and I think another back up.

I checked the Yankees roster and they just have Giambi and Martinez listed as first baseman. The DH is shared by those two and Sierra. Perhaps a bit crowded for Olerud, but still something to consider.

Olerud is a great fielder...but it's obvious his playing days are behind him.

He'd make a tremendous coach...he's a real student of the game, and always executed the fundamentals so well.

He will definitely make a roster around the trading deadline with a team who has a shot to make the playoffs. His glove, bat, stability and experience will be desireable. He's not "hang it up" material just yet.

Some people think he is finished, but I am just being optimistic.

He still has above average glove and can get on base. His hitting skills are still above average, but he has trouble getting above .300. He remains very close, but is just under.

He would be a bargain since I still feel he can contribute to a team.
