beautiful cards...

mantle is a strong card, probably the (if not one of the) strongest modern cards, so you should have little problem (at least) getting face value back.

Did you give any thought of gettting top dollar running seperate auctions?? I personally would be interested in 3 of the cards but probably wont bid because of the out of pocket expense and the having to resale the rest. I also wonder which format would net more??

I did consider individual listings, and will do just that if my reserve is not met, but I thought this would creat a more "exciting" auction...we shall see!

Hey, I see you are selling some ungraded Goudeys too. I'm just curious, it seems you are collecting PSA 5s, and yet you are selling 4 ungraded cards that seem to be PSA 5 equivalents. Why not send in those to grade and see if they come back 5s?

There are a couple of reasons the goudey's are up....1. Some of my regular buyers prefer raw cards over graded for various reasons. 2. Depending on what I have in the card determines if I want to spend $10+ for grading fees w/o any gurantee on the grade I will get. 3. Many of these are duplicates for me (I have a raw 33 goudey set that is of course not on the registry). 4. With the exception of the Clark card currently up, the other cards have minor issues that I feel would prevent a maximum grade (all minor issues being listed in the descriptions). Hope that helps.

I sold a 1953-69 Mantle run (individual cards) last year and did very nicely, even well above SMR in some cases. I think I would have lost several thousand if I'd sold it as a group lot, because that method would have shut out most collectors. Only bargain-minded investors and dealers would have been bidding. The chances would have been small that I'd hit some rich collector who had no Mantles and wanted to buy the run all at once ... And I'd have to hit TWO of them to drive the prices out of the bargain-minded bidders' range.

Listing them individually, you make your Micks accessible to the entire market and realize a higher price for each. To me, that's worth the trouble of individual listings and shipments. I did have several bidders buying groups of 3 or 4, so that cut down the number of shipments.

There's still excitement when one seller has a large run of individual cards. There can be a feeding frenzy, a sort of I-gotta-get-more mentality that can overpower financial prudence as the minutes are ticking down. Especially if two or three determined collectors are feeling in a competitive mood that night!

Nice cards...but I've got a question. What is the mark on Mick's cheek on the 1964? It almost looks like paper loss, but it can't be (due to the grade.)

Thanks, it is a printing flaw of some sort, gloss on card is perfect the flaw is beneath.......not sure how that could have happened. There is a similar flaw on his arm.

Very nice. Just put in a couple bids (I'm in the Mantle registry and trying to improve) and didn't get past the guy ahead of me.

If possible, look up the SMR and add that to the auction.

I noticed that the PSA cert. on all of them starts with zero. Did you submit them all yourself back in the day?

I submitted the 1961, 62, 64, 67 and 69 cards myself, the rest have been aquired over the years. I submitted those cards probably 5-6 years ago now. My reserve was met on day one but last night that bidder cancelled his bid??? Seems fishy maybe he was just trying to see what my reserve was, I have set a fair reserve and think it will be met....we shall see...

Why does the 1968 look so short T-B in its holder? Did they use the wrong slab?

1968 Topps is notorious for being slightly off in the measurements, both too small and too large. PSA knows this and still grades them, provided they fall within a certain tolerance. It looks like your '68 Mick might have been cut too large and thus wouldn't fit in the standard holder's framing area without damage. So they used a pre-1957 holder and a mylar sleeve to keep it from sliding around. I once had a Ryan rookie like that. I hated the sleeve, but it's better than PSA refusing to holder it!

You have $2900 worth of Mantles there (SMR), so you'd hope the bidding would be a bit higher than it is. I think it's because the bulk sale excludes all but dealers and investors looking to flip them individually for a profit. They figure, "SMR is a little less than $3K, therefore I don't want to spend more than $2500." Maybe even the low-risk, high-profit types dropped out at $2K. After all, they have to do some work and accept some risk in the flipping process, so that holds their bids down to a level where their profit would be worthwhile.

So why let their profit margin eat up yours? If your reserve is not met, I would strongly consider doing individual auctions -- thus multiplying your bidding audience twenty-fold.

Very nice group of Mantles. I love that 1961.

You'll do fine on the group with no hassles of shipping to multiple critical/picky winners.

Someone who buys the run will be happy and very appreciative....a completely different type of buyer than the single card purchase people.

Your listing attracted BIG attention and you'll net close to the same with one easy transaction.

Strong buyers and serious dealers pay premium for well assembled groups.

I felt the same way and am happy with the results (winner already paid too!), I do not think I could have gotten much if any more selling this grouping individually. I felt the stronger cards kept the prices up for the weaker ones in the group, and one buyer one shipment is nice too. Now to buy that 1933 Ruth #53.............
