Is MastroNet stealing scans on the PSA registry?

Look at the 1934 Goudey set. #8 is MastroNet April 05, and #11 is 1934 GOudey Set 6.09 GPA. They have identical scans. In fact, the cards that are different grades between the two sets, MastroNet has the lower graded card in their scan - basically they are using the #11 set's scans. The easy ones to see this is the last two cards, 95 and 96, which MastroNet shows as PSA 7, but the scans are of PSA 6 - the same as the #11 set. Also, the #48 card is listed as a PSA 6 on MastroNet, but is a PSA 7MK on the #11 set, and Mastronet's scan is a PSA 7MK.

Something's not kosher here.

  • Are you sayingthe #11 is not the seller of these cards on mastronet?
Now looking for a 1950 Bowman Baseball Box as pictured below.

  • The #11 seller could be the seller on Mastronet...in fact, that's the way it looks.

But if Mastronet's cards are the #11's cards, how were they able to list both sets on the PSA Registry? I thought a card could only be used once per set registry?

A single graded card can be used in as many registered sets as applicable, if that's what the issue is.
  • So one card can be used in more than one registered set of the same set?

That doesn't make any sense. Sometimes when I've purchased a card and try to enter it in, the site tells me that it belongs in someone else's registry set.

But besides that, one could input the same cards in many sets, and completely make the registry nonsensical.

I'm still confused, as you can tell. Someone straighten me out please.

I'm sorry, kenny. As long as the sets are all registered to you, the card can be used multiple times. But if it's already registered to someone else, he/she must remove it before anyone else can register it.
  • Thanks Buc...but that still doesn't make any sense.

I can understand using the same PSA certification for different sets. Say a 33 Goudey Ruth #53 PSA 6 in the 1933 Goudey set as well as the Babe Ruth Basic Player set. But it doesn't make sense that I can use that same PSA certification and put it into two different 1933 Goudey sets. What purpose would that serve? If I had the #1 set, does this mean I could list it 20 times, and in essence shut everyone out from the PSA registry main page of the set?

Maybe the rule you stated is the rule...but if it is, it makes zero sense (obviously I'm not blaming you, but the PSA registry rules). Thanks for your help.
  • But cant the same card also be in multiple sets if the prior sets were retired? Im having a hard time interpreting what the issue is here.
  • both sets are still in the "Current" list....neither is retired.
They currently occupy #8 and #11 with most of the same cards (not all).

  • Let me shed a little light on this subject.

Both set #8 and #11 are owned by the same collector. He is an advanced collector of 34 Goudey cards and has multiple sets and singles. He is selling both sets, apparently #8 is being sold by Mastro(but not #11). There just must be some mixups in the scans Mastro is using. Hope that helps.

    Looking for:
    1953 Topps in PSA 8
    1941 Playball in PSA 8.
1952-1955 Red Man cards in 7 and 8
    1950 Bowman in PSA 8

The whole set registry is messed up right now and this proves it. It needs to be cleaned up.

First of all, auctioneers and dealers should be prohibited from using the set registry to sell their cards - its horrific! Do they really need the free advertising? PSA should not allow this nor should the collectors! Its horrific to mix the fun of the registry/collecting with this bulls--t!

Second, Mastro couldn't even get the scans right as many of them are listed a grade higher than the actual scan shows - check out card #2. They messed up the scans alright- or perhaps Mastro resubmitted the same card and got back higher grades but are too lazy to put new scans in!

The scans are surely messed up and someone at PSA better be looking into it! Lets keep the filth, auctioning, dealing out of the registry and keep it for the collectors.

Where is Orlando when you need him!
  • 53kid, thanks for the clearup.. .so they are two sets with completely different cards...now that all makes sense.
