I got four neg's from a guy i sold some 1960's FB cards to. I know if I was not happy with the transaction I would have emailed the seller an either asked for a refund or partial refund. This buyer did neither, nor did he communicate that he wasn't happy with the product prior to leaving feedback. This is what I sent him in an emai:
<< <i>Whats the big idea with leaving four neg's for me? If you weren't happy with the cards all you needed to do was send me an email stating that you weren't happy and that you wanted you money returned. I would have had no problem with doing that for you, but you decided to screw over my feedback. I have over 1400 positives for a reason. It looks like you have had neg's from other ebay'ers hey??? >>
My problem is that I don't was these on my record. What can I do???
Thanks,
Ryan

In the auctions that he won you seem to have represented the product well and given adequate info on the condition for bidders to make a decision to place a bid. The auctions are well done and better than most on Ebay.
So now you have 99.9% feedback, which is still great. I wouldn't sweat over the .1%.
If I could pick something to do differently I would have used the reply to his feedback differently, and also been a little more informative in the explanation for the negs you left him. When we have four negs in a row to reply to we have four lines of narrative that we can use to explain. Prospective bidders can read all of these and get a good picture. Something like "Buyer never contacted me before leaving negs, do not know what issue he has with purchases, please check his feedback for other problems like this. " In your negs you could have done this also.
We sometimes don't remember that the negs and our replies are meant more for other Ebayers to use in making their decision than for us to respond to the deadbeat.
Keep up the good work. Good luck.

I do not like the practice of sellers withholding feedback to protect against negs with the ability to retaliate with a negative of their own for the buyer, who often times has a legitimate gripe. Some sellers constantly sell cards that have major flaws which are purposely not revealed in the auction, or sell grossly over-graded or trimmed or counterfeit cards, receive e-mail complaints from the unsatisfied buyers but offer to do nothing because they say all sales final in auction, and have volumes of positive feedback because so many are concerned about protecting their own feedback rating and don't want a neg in return for leaving one.
<< <i>Sucks that you wound up with a couple negs from this moron, over $10 worth of off-grade cards. I don't think you should have left negative feedback for him however, as much as you are upset with him for doing it to you, you should have left him positive feedback shortly after the transaction for paying in a timely manner. >>
blah
Leave him 4 negs, and reply to your negs stating ZERO COMMUNICATION from the neg'er (sorry that sounds bad doesn't it)

Guess you don't sell cards. I buy and sell. In fact I buy slightly more than I sell but I always wait for the buyer to say they are happy with a transaction before I rate them. Fast payment is only part of the deal - regardless what Ebay says.
Has anyone heard of a seller negging a buyer after the buyer gives him positive feedback? I haven't - but I've heard countless stories of buyers shafting sellers after the seller "did the right thing" and rated the buyer immediately after payment.
If you think about it, buying in an online auction is a rather odd way of trading goods. We've come a long way from the bizarre and souk, but in those cases the transaction is not complete until both parties are happy. When the buyer is happy in a face-face transaction, he shows his happiness by handing over his money, taking the good and leaving the store after evaluating his purchase.
Online auctions are different in that there is a lag between payment and the customer's evaluation of the product. The transaction is only complete when the customer receives the product, evaluates it, and says he is happy when he posts feedback. Until that time, the seller has to consider the transaction open - which is why I offer a guarantee on whatever I sell.
The idiot who negged the poster obviously doesn't understand how commerce is done, and Ebay/Paypal should do more to protect sellers from these people. It's not only Neg feedback one has to worry about, it's chargebacks.
Somone received a card and was unhappy at that point with the shipping costs. Nevermind the fact that before he paid he never asked for a further discount that the large discount I already had given him. Then when he got the items he left me a randon NEG. Like it or not I don't believe buyers should leave feedback until the receive it from the buyer. Part of the ebay agreement is that you will try to communicate if you have an issue, and not just leave randon negs. If the buyer doesn't try to work out his problem before leaving a neg. then he deserves one too!

I too used to leave feedback when Payment was made but stopped when I had a buyer buy an item try to reselle it for a profit on Ebay when it did not sell he demanded a refund from me. Luckily I covered all my bases with Paypal, and was warned by another Ebay seller of his pratices and did not leave feedback for him. There were 2 other sellers he did this to at the same time both left feedback first they have since recieved negs for the item being not as described, even after one of them refunded. I have not recieved nothing from him and never sent him a dime back.
There was an article somewhere a couple of months ago where Paypal stated that most of its fraudlent users are buyers who are preying on sellers who do not follow the terms. You would think they would change the terms.
Oh yeah one other thing.. SHow me where you are required to leave feedback at all according to Ebay.. Feedback is optional.
I'm like Pandrews; I hate people.
<< <i>When you look at my feedback would those four neg's deter you from bidding??? I know when i see someone when has recent neg's it makes me think twice. >>
No. But, to be honest, the four retaliatory negs he left would.
Tabe
Most ebayers don't even worry about neg fbs... What gets me about a neg fb is when the person who gets it... doesn't do a reply back to the neg fb!
