    Oh Dead King:

I think you may need to do smoe research on currency devaluation in Italy and The Vatican. I believe until 1958 there was no such thing as a 500L coin, it may have only been a 5L coin. I know the 100L was minted in gold - so I think there was a devaluation that gave rise to the 500L coin. I think the same happened in the 80's.

LOL - What Im saying is that 5 Lira in 1939, 50 in 1957, and 500 in 1958 may have all been the same size coin, that through monetary devaluation, the denomination just increased.

And bytheway - for the record there have been 266 Popes and 39 Anti-Popes, all of which probably issued coins, so you'll be busy for quite a while image

I see what you are saying now, but I think the 5 Lire were smaller than the 500 Lire, perhaps the 10 Lire was the same as the 500 after 1958.

I doubt all 266 issued coins, but I would guess that a good many did starting in the early middle ages. This will keep me busy for a while.

I wonder if Sede Vacante coins are being issued now?

At times during Papal history two Popes would be elected at the same time by rival factions, both would of course claim to be the "real" Pope. For example, in the 4th Century Constantius II belonged to the Arian Heresy and appointed a "pope" who was sympathetic to his views. Not all Antipopes were bad, one Antipope was made a saint after his death. There has not been an Antipope in over 500 years.
