OT: Google Satalitte Maps

Hey Everyone,

Thought you might like to check this out GOOGLE MAPS . To view your house enter your address and city name and click on Satalitle map on the right hand side.

Try Las Vegas Blvd. for a really cool view.

It misses my house by 4. It must have my street numbered backwards.
  • I think the imagery is really old. There's a dirt lot in the image I was looking at that now has a building on it and has for over a year now.

That is pretty cool. Makes me a little paranoid though....I am wearing an aluminum foil hat as I type this. It worked pretty good for my college place, but when I do my home address it is nothing but green trees and mountains...God Bless WV lol

Yes, it is pretty old. It has both houses on each side of mine, but not my house which has been there about 3 or 4 years now.

Whoa, that's cool. It's weird, though. It looks like the picture of my house was taken by someone hanging upside down out of a plane facing backwards. And the guy across the street has a pool. I didn't know that.

I put in "broad & pattison, philadelphia, pa" and you can still see the Vet, the original Spectrum, and the new Spectrum. One new park is under construction, I guess the football stadium, and there's groundbreaking for the new ballpark. But looking at this photo gives me vertigo. The 2 Spectrums are on a "normal" perspective, but the Vet is like my house, taken from the other side upside down. It's like the world is folded over along Pattison street. Even cooler, if you scroll down from that location, you can see the Navy yards. Look, there's an aircraft carrier!

  • My city offers this service as well, except the pictures are even closer, taken from only 3,000 feet.

However, they noted that all of the pictures are from 2001 and that they get updated every 5 years.

So I wonder how often these are updated.

It's a very cool feature. You can also go to Keyhole.com and try out a more advanced version (when I tried it last, the zoom in feature was better than the one Google uses, even though Google bought Keyhole. I guess in time, the disparities will be eliminated).

NASA worldwind is another very cool satelite program.
