Ajaan has the rare one. The mintage on Dimitri's is 500; the mintage on ajaan's laser-engraved piece is only ten. image

imageThread resurrection warning- this is a six-year-old thread. I just happened to stumble across it in a search.

Dimitri, that rare wooden token of yours is indeed rare now, at least around these parts. I have exactly one of those left!

Did I ever send you one of the wooden dollars with the Morgan design, done in red?

This is the actual thread I was searching for, since johnsim03 is back around. It was weird- I got one of John's wooden nickels randomly mixed into the box when the company who made them shipped me those wooden dollars I'd ordered. Small world.

The red Morgan dollar "wooden dollars" would be LordM Series III, I guess, if some truly pathetic nerd of the future were to catalog them. They're my current box.

The green Buffalo nickel designed ones like in the OP were Series II and as I mentioned, I only have one of those left, unless another turns up in a drawer somewhere.

Series I was a specially made laser-engraved piece with a picture of Lord Marcovan (the fictional Veronian baron, not me) on it. Laserart made ten of those for me and I do not still have one. A few forum members still do, though, I guess, unless they've used them for doggie chew toys or to shim up wobbly table legs.

  • Rob,

Was this the one you got?

The reason I am asking is that there are several different versions out there. This particular one, well -
I've got a bag of several hundred of them... image

Tough using a metal detector on these, huh?

John- yes! That's the one they mixed in with my shipment of red wooden dollars (of which I don't have a picture). I thought it was funny- small world, like I said.

Pmac- you're right- these ain't exactly metal detector friendly!

Anybody else have their own custom woodies or tokens?

Do any of you WANT to have your own custom woodies?

One caveat: Old Time Wooden Nickel Company does good work overall but they don't have the greatest attention to detail. I still have a box of that first run of the green Buffalo design out in my shed because they got MY NAME wrong on them- they printed them up as "Robert" Shinnick! So I didn't let any of those get out into circulation. Maybe they'll be "rare errors" someday, if I let one or two trickle out. image

I plan to spray paint the rest gold and use them as gaming counters in a board game I am making for my nephews. On my second order, OTWNC screwed up again, and the "fix" they sent was only partly acceptable. So I have mixed feelings about them. On the one hand, they're the leader in wooden nickel production and probably have the best prices, but on the other hand, some of the people who work for them probably aren't that bright. I imagine it's probably only the luck of the draw that there were flaws on two out of two of my orders.

Wow. You have #1? Cool. I don't even have any of those myself. Laserart did a good job on 'em.

I will have to check mine, but Syracusian, I think he shorted you since mine might be a wooden dollar - a whole 95 cents more than yours!

Rob, no, I've never gotten a wooden dollar.must have been one of these periods that we weren't trading so often I guess. I'd love to have one if there's one left. image
