Star designation?

Has PCGS considered a designation for coins like NGC has for toned coins using a *?

Coin grading is more prcise than any other collectible. For example, sportscard are graded on a scale of 1 to 10 with two grades of Mint, 9 and 10. Coins are graded on a scale of 1 to 70 with 11 grades of Mint, 60 to 70.

I believe it is hard to grade 11 grades of Mint consistently. Adding a star is like adding a half point in-between, or maybe decimal grading. If that's the case I don't believe it can be done consistently. If the star just means great eye appeal, then that's adding a very subjective call to an already very subjective process. In addition, I don't think the market needs a star designation and I don't believe there is currently a significant pricing structure for "stars."

Bottom line, we don't believe stars are for us.

    Thanks,

    David
