SSP: Europa ECU tokens

Not sure what to call these. Not sure where I got them, or why. I have had them for several years, but need the room, and could use the money, so they go. If not here, they will hit eBay on Wednesday, when I am off work.

1979, asking $10.00

1980, asking $12.00. this one comes in a wallet (original???) with CoA.

The CoA included with the 1980 gives the following stats:

(*both pieces are same size/weight/composition)
*diameter = 41mm
*weight = 33 g
*composition = florentine bronze
mintage = 50,000

"Administration des Monnaies et Medailles (Paris)"
"Jean-Marc Laleta (Paris)" <--- their monogram M is privy mark on the 1980.
The 1979 has "P. Rodier"

both pieces also carry the cornucopia privy mark of the Paris Mint. both pieces are in what I assume to be original plio-film.

Due to the weight of these things (over 1 oz each), postage is $1.00 for 1 or both, $2.00 outside the US.

Notice that as of this time, there were only 9 member states, including UK and Denmark, which were not part of the original 12 Euro issuers.

  • <<Not sure what to call these. >> -You can call them "medallic issues", at least such name is given in Krause 2002 for some of them , which are listed there and even priced and numbered. I collect that stuff, but only with ships on them image
