One of my many dumb questions

I've noticed over the years that some individuals have a small or large photo at the bottome left of everyone of their post or answers. How is this done not that I want to, but just curious? Why is it allowed when sometimes it takes up so much room?

    Carl,

    The photo at the bottom of the post is the person's signature line and it's where some people put their favorite coins or other pictures. It's part of the personality of the boards and we think it adds to the fun.
