I won a few cards tonight with bids that wouldn't normally win.
Kind of nice after losing auction after auction for the last couple of weeks.

Maybe the time change caused bidders to miss some auction endings ?

  • That PSA 7 for under 30 bucks seems very nice. I got a 36 Goudey PSA 7 for $61, right at SMR last week. Before I got it in the mail I had an offer for $85 for it. But i'm holding it. POP 1 of 5 with 2 better I think it was... for $61!! there are still undervalued gems in pre-war. Good job on your pick ups!!

I was really happy (and surprised) with the Turley. His cards often go for close to SMR because he's a Yankee I guess. I thought maybe it was because a lot of people were watching the game last night and not surfing the net.

It was an odd night. I sold some cards for quite a bit less than SMR, but others for far more.

A PSA 8 Sutter rookie, for example, went for more than double SMR ... though I will admit, I think SMR has been out to lunch on that card for some time.

A PSA 10 Donruss Rookies #43 Randy Johnson that has been selling for a little more than $20 all winter suddenly shot up to nearly triple that amount ... ironically, close to the price that SMR has been incorrectly printing all these months. Did people just barely notice he's a Yankee? Or did they need to actually see him pitch before wanting his card?

Aha. Now I know who beat me out on that Turley card!

I, too, think it was an odd night. I actually did better than expected overall on my sales last night, mostly the cards that I had in my Sampler Set (T201, T205, early Bowmans) as well as the rest of my raw 1960 set. It helped that unbeknowest to me, the 49 Bowman PSA 7 card (which I bought for $25 just a couple of months ago) was a NOF/PDB variation and saw the bids jump from $25 to $112 in the last seconds.

On the other hand, I did pick up three more 1957 PSA 6 star cards, getting a centered Dodgers Sluggers and Frank Robinson RC for well below SMR (I believe). I then paid 10% above SMR for a nice 1957 Aaron.

Now I am hoping that next Sunday, there will be a renewed interest in 1961 PSA 7 and PSA 8 cards!

I sold my 1978 Topps Baseball EX+-NRMT set for less than I was hoping ($113.50+10 shipping). I recently got a deal on an underrated '78 set, so flipped my existing one for not much more than I paid. On March 29 a comparable set went for $150

I got nailed by the time change pushing my end of auction to 12:45 AM instead of the 11:45 PM Sun Night EST I had targeted. That "lost" hour probably was one reason. Another was a bad photo from my FAR scanner which is costing me in more ways today.

I still end up with a better NRMT-MT set though.

Funny you mentioned this - but I got a few nice deals last night, on cards from the 1966 set. There have been some crazy people bidding 1966 cards up to well over SMR lately, so these wins were a nice surprise for me.

I got outbid on some PSA 7 & 8 early 60s card lots. Usually this should be a good time of the year to sell right before the season opens. Interesting point about the daylight savings time.

Do you have any 55 dups that you'd want to get rid of? Let me know.

  • I picked up the 58 Topps Mantle/Aaron in a psa 6 for less then I seen a 5 go for a week earlier. this has been a card I wanted a while so I was thrilled.
  • A little off topic (non sports card sale) but I had the fastest sale I have ever put up on eBay last night. I sold a Palm m515 PDA with a Buy It Now for $100 that was snatched up in 7 minutes. Guess I priced it too low though you can usually pick one of these up in the $80 range if you're patient.

Steve, are you doing the '57 set all graded? I just started it in raw Ex+-NM but will probably try to pick up the big cards already graded. Maybe we can trade dupes if you're doing any of it raw.

    Did I leave anything out?

Dave, it looks that way. Right now, my set consist of about 140 ExMt raws and about 40 graded. Lately I have been buying PSA 6 lots and end up having to sell the raws that they replaced. I will start to send in the raws to grade (which would be a first for me) but in the meantime, I welcome any deals or trades.

Last night (as most Sunday nights) was very hectic. Usually I scramble to get my auctions up for sale, follow my auctions that are ending, as well as search and snipe for cards I want to buy - all at the same time. It was not until this morning before the dust settled to really understand what I bought. I had thought I picked up a FRobinson but it was the Berra instead. In looking back, I now wonder why I got the #400 Dodgers Sluggers PSA 6 for about $80 when the SMR is $145. It seems to look pretty centered to me.

There is something else that happened last night. The 1949 Bowman that I sold was the last card someone here needed for his Master Set. I think that's neat when something like that happened.
