John Stevens - Mickey Manlte Fraudster

This is an open message to John Stevens.

John,
Since you are not responding to any of my emails, maybe your buddy Carl who reads these boards can pass a message to you. SEND BACK MY MONEY.

For those that have not heard, John Stevens of , ebay: Steelmetalface) sold me some PSA Mickey Mantle Cards that were counterfeits. I attempted to get my $3000 back and he sent me $200. He claims that he closed out the email account listed and none of his phone numbers work anymore. He claims he has no job and had to have them turned off.

I have heard that he goes by the name Robert Stewart or Elmo Dill.

Does anyone on these boards know what kind of area his home is located? Is it the type of place that people have their phones turned off? (i.e. - Beverly Hills probably doesn't have that problem whereas South Central may. I don't know where Island Ave in San Diego rates).

Anyway, if anyone wants to find out more about this fraud, PM me and I will let you know everything.

Do NOT buy anything from this guy, it is probably counterfeit.

To the attorney that contacted me about this already, please contact me again. Lets get this guy.

If anyone has had any experience in being ripped off and has ideas on how to get my money back (only legal ideas please), please get in touch with me.

If the cards were counterfeits in PSA holders, your problem is with PSA, not John Stevens.

When laying down the gauntlet like this in a public forum, you really need to be detailed if you want the rest of us to care about the little soap opera situations. Feel free to elaborate.

    ebay fraud

Man Mudflap, you're right. You do just want to cause/stir trouble, huh? (your words, not mine image)

I would think someone on the boards as often as you would remember this. I don't think we need any more details. I included the link to refresh you're memory.
  • To say that my problem is with John Stevens is irresponsible (unless of course you are affliated with him). I spoke with PSA about this situation. Apparently, this is not the first time he has done something like this. So my problem is in fact with John Stevens AKA Robert Stewart AKA Elmo Dill.

I think even Bev. Hills residents will have the phone turned off if they do not pay the bill.
    Good for you.

Let me be the first to say that if somebody is at fault, I in no way condone any sort of jackassery. I'm pretty sure I missed chapter one of this saga during the big cross-country move. I was hoping to have access to the boards while driving the TBird across the deserts of Arizona, but sadly, it was not to be. Good luck with nailing this guy, and if anything else, the fact that he presented counterfeit PSA holders to you would be to your advantage in trying to get your $$$ back (ie - it would involve PSA and their lawyers as a third party, not just between you and this guy). Just my two cents.

I have to remember that if I'm going to continue stirring things up, I need to do my homework.

I agree - and not "prison," but "federal-pound-me-in-the-ass-prison."

Thedpro - not clear here if you are saying that you bought counterfeit cards from this gent in PSA holders....or you bought ungraded cards that were fakes. Also, does something lead you to believe that your "perpetrator" or affiliates reads these boards?
Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!
  • I bought cards IN a PSA holder. When I received the cards, I saw the holders were coming apart. I sent them to PSA to be reholdered. PSA calls me and tells me that the cards were counterfeit.

I have been in touch with the seller, that is when he responds to my emails (which he has not been recently). He made mention of the fact that I have publicly stated his name and address because his friend "Carl" let him know. Also, he has been receiving "bad emails" from members on this board.

He has since turned off his phone and is not responding to emails. He is also claiming that he doesn't work and his unemployment is over. Its good to know that bums like this can continue to rip people off with the use Ebay (he has sold the same Mantle card with the SAME cert # on multiple occassions).

John, Carl or Elmo, if you are reading, why not send me an email or call me so we can talk about this.
  • File Mail Fraud cahrges against him.. Trust me a USPS inspector knocking on his door will get his attention.

I hope you nail him. BTW, San Diego is an extremely expensive
area to live in. He's full of crap.
  • I live in San Diego but not familiar with Island Ave......I'll try and do some research and see what I can dig up. In general though, SD has one of the higher standard of living prices across the nation year after year. He may leave in a cheaper are in San Diego but it's still expensive compared to most places across the country.
  • what about in SAN DIEGO. That is another address used by this thief. I also have his account number with Wells Fargo that I could post if that would help.

The irony of this whole situation is that, the only thing I want is my money back. I will even send him back the cards he sent me (it IS only fair to return them if he sends my money back).

I REFUSE to let this go away.

Carl, if you are reading this, tell your friend John Stevens, Elmo Dill, or Robert Stewart that I will not let this go away and I will keep posting their names and addresses until I get my money back. I am only doing this to procted other collectors/investors on these boards from being ripped off by you (or them) the way that I have.

1967and 1973 Topps baseball wantlists (any condition) welcome. Once had the #14 ATF 1967 set. Yet another collector like skylaneflyer, gimel1 who made it to the completion of 1967 only to need the money more than the company of 609 close friends.
Looking for oddball Norm Cash and Cleon Jones stuff, and 1956 team cards

I am familiar with both Island Ave and University Ave, (I live on Harbor Drive, which runs adjecent to Island Ave). Let me know if you need any help.
  • If you have any suggestions on how I could get my money back from these theives, ANY help would be appreciated.
  • I remember several baseball and basketball tournaments down there when I was in high school and for what it's worth University Ave area is not a very nice area in general for San Diego.

I am sympathetic to your loss, However,

those cards would be worth around 5 grand at least.

You tought you could get away with this deal and basically "steal it" for about 2 grands cheaper than they go for.

So, when the guy steals from you, you cry bloody murder, But it was OK to basically rip off this guy for about two grands?

You made a deal off ebay with a guy you didnt know, you sent him a non traceable money order for 3000 dollars!

you were greedy and you got screwed.

In any case, I really do hope that you recover your money

You do have a point, HOWEVER, I based my decision to buy these cards on the fact that they were in PSA holders. I mean, what more validity could I ask for? And I do have a copy of the cancelled bank check with Elmo Dill's signature and bank account number at Wells Fargo.

Maybe i was a little harsh, wether you were greedy or naive it doesnt matter now.

your best bet would be to call the SD police department and try to speak with someone in charge of internet fraud or Ecommerce or something like that.

actually the post office might be a good source. although the federal goverment wont get involved unless the fraud its much bigger.

    above all be persistant!

Theifs are lowlifes by nature, they are lazy (otherwise they would get a real job)

keep bothering him, keep a good log of all the information that you have laready and keep pushing with the local police.

    Good luck
