ILLINI!

CardsFanCardsFan Posts: 1,093 ✭✭✭
Well the start of the final four was a bit dissapointing coming off those great elite 8 games, but #1 against #2 for the championship. Doesn't get much better then that. Time to finally shut up the experts like Dicky V. who have been saying NC is the best team, time for Illinois to prove they deserve to be #1.

I was hoping for MSU to win, boy did they lay an egg in the second half!! Go Illini, at least for the Big 10 sakes.

  • I watched Saturday's game in a Champaign bar. Man, that place was nuts. I really hope they win tonight. There just is nothing negative about the team, the coach or the university (same with NC).

It will be a great game between two solid programs at two solid universities.

The Illini are well coached, tough, and fun to watch. And, actually, I like Williams and think he's done a heck of a job. But, as an Indiana U. grad, I like to see the Big 10 (11) do good. I've said for years that the Big 10 (11) road schedule is an absolute killer in the middle of winter, and the hardest in the country. It either makes teams or breaks them. Illinois proved its mettle.

It was a good game. I was alittle disappointed with some of the foul calls on Augustine.

One of the great understatements. May gets away with murder and Packer talks about "illegal screens." I've been watching Final Four games for 40 years, and this ranks very close to the top as the worst officiated game of all time.

I was trying to figure out what was so illegal about the screens and I would have thought Packer would diagram it out on the screen so the rest of us could at least understand what he saw that I didn't.

  • The screens were illegal because the player setting the screen was in motion or a "moving screen". Living in Big Ten country I have seen the Illini play quite a bit and they were setting illegal screens all season and getting away with it. It's just part of the deterioration of the officiating in basketball that has evolved over the past twenty years. The way they let players get away with travelling, carrying the ball, jump step and calling time out while falling out of bounce are just a few more examples. If you need Billy Packer to point that out, a rule book would be a good investment.

  • Great post jamesy, couldn't agree with you more in regards to the rules infractions that are no longer called.

  • Jamesy,

I fully agree. The game has really changed over the years. Carrying is rarely called, travelling is the norm, and granting time out as a player is falling out of bounds is something I have never agreed with.

    Jamesy;

I am sorry for posting my thoughts... its just that Mr. Packer makes alot more money than I do and CBS Sports should do alittle more to help the unfortunates such as myself that are just not capable of understanding a sporting event such as Basketball.

With all due respect, I understand what a moving screen is... I was not on National Television making accusations that what Illinois was doing constituted an illegal screen. You seem to believe that Illinois uses moving screens which are obviously illegal. Because CBS did not explain to me the bases of Mr. Packer's comments were in connection with an illegal screen , why don't you tell me what Illinois did that constitutes an illegal screen? Please CC Coach Weber.

While I tend to agree that officials call games differently today than 20 or 30 years ago (and even longer... back in the days when Illinois made it to the final four more often...), the game has also changed.

If you think my comments are not even on the court, feel free to take up a collection on the forum to send me a rule book.image

I didn't mean to offend you or belittle your comments. I was trying to make the point that a rule book would make it clearer than Packer. He is an arrogant *ss who seldom backs up his statements with examples. After reading my last post I can see how you took it the way you did, but that was not my intention. Sorry.

    JAMESY:

No need to apologize... and I appreciate your comments because you mentioned some things that I did not take the time to consider and frankly, reflecting back on it, I should have thought of some of these...image
