Vatican Coins & Pope John Paul

I know it'll only be a matter of days until the Franklin Mint or places like it hustle out their commemorative coins for the late Pope John Paul (heck, they've probably had them on ice for a while now & just had to fill in the appropriate date!
), but what is the Vatican policy on posthumous "commemorative" coins of Popes? Are they made for such events, or do they only mint coins of each during their lifetime/reign?
Just curious, as I have not branched-out into that area of collecting to date.
Thanks for the info.

I am pretty sure the Vatican plans to mint a commerative coin for JP II.

<< <i>As a side note. Do an eBay search for Vatican coins and see how many John Paul II coins have been listed in the past 6 hours. >>
Ah, yes, the death profiteers.
Actually, I've noticed that the JPII coin sets, not including the already scarce euro ones, had already been creeping up in price as he got older.

Just send them to me and I'll give them a dignified home.
