1955 Unidentified Issue

I recently purchased a number of cards from a reputable dealer. He claimed he was selling them for a person who found them in his grandfather's attice. They are of an unknown origin, but clearly appear to be from 1955 since the cards all bear information and statistics about the 1954 season. They are on stiff stock, similar to cereal box material. They measure approximately 2 3/8 by 3 1/2.

Has any one ever seen these? Are they authentically from 1955?

They look sort of familiar, but I don't know the set. Pretty cool, though, and pretty savvy to include Koufax if they are '55s. And they are in great condition. The blank back and dark brown material does seem like a box. Sooner or later someone will identify them.

I don't know what those are, I don't see anything like them in the 1955 pop report -- which may only mean that PSA doesn't grade them. However, the phrase "I'm selling them for someone who found them in his grandfather's attic" always sets off my BS-o-meter! The reputable dealer who sold them doesn't know what they are?
  • I agree. The grandfather's attic is usually a red flag. But the seller had 100% feedback, so I gave pretty high credence to the listing.

They look similar to the cards from the 1954 Royal Desert set in another post I just read about the hardest cards to find. Could be a baseball issue from the same company? Check the pics on the hardest card to find post. Rich

    psa10,
No idea, and I thought I'd seen most everything
  • Gaspipe, Don't feel bad. I showed them to a bunch of long-time collectors today at a card show and they had never seen them, which probably means they're either a very rare, previously uncatalogued item, or they are bogus. The general consensus of the guys I showed them to was that they are authentically from 1955. I'll do more research.
