First time I have to disagreed with PSA DNA

The A in Wade isnt tall enough the D in Wade is to Big , oval shaped. And the entire last name looks like crap. Especialy the missing S in Boggs when Wade signs, and the B is just odd when comparred to the 50 + autos I have. The O in Boggs is a solid circle , it usualy is a solid straight line and you cant tell it is an O, and the second G in Boggs is usualy lower then the 1st g. It isnt the end of the world but I disagree.

  • James,

This seller sells alot of auto items... Over 16,000 positive feedbacks and is selling over 1500 items that have been signed. Do you think maybe Boggs had a bad day or after signing so many items he got sloppy?

Maybe he was err ... being distracted when he signed it ...

I guess anything is possible. PSA could be right even with the cert I wouldnt buy it. Or it could be possible after selling so many and PSA authenicating so many is slipped through? Had I had to authenticate it I wouldnt. Just to many flaws in the auto.

I still dont know what Wade saw in Margo she must have had a hidden talent. image

I think after signing a few thousand cards, stickers and other items in a day, certain familar aspects of an autograph may change slightly, and PSA/DNA knows this and looks beyond it to other characteristics unique to that player. I have many certified autos of Johnny Bench, and some obtained in person, and I could point to half a dozen characteristics that appear inconsistent at first glance.

My own signature starts to deteriorate after signing my name ten times in a row, never mind a thousand!

Good point, that is so true about multiple signings!

That may be true But I never seen him leave off the S in Boggs and make a big oval in his D in Wade...... never. Not even on a card with a print run of 1000 auto's.

I've included the link to the COA for the Boggs autographed card and I have to say, while I understand you are a big Boggs collector, I don't see how PSA may have gotten this signature wrong. The Boggs card was part of a group of HOF autographed cards PSA/DNA took a great deal of time inspecting and double checking. The folks at PSA/DNA checked the sharpie autographs and said they're consistent with the 'slant, flow, pen pressure, letter size and other characteristics' of exemplars on file with PSA/DNA. This letter of authenticity was notarized for crying out loud!! THEY are the experts in this field and I trust them 100%.

They said the 44 cards were 'thoroughly examined,' and I think we should just take them at their word.

There are many times where people get tired of signing autographs and just decide not to finish the last letter of their name. It's not that big a deal! Look at Lebron James! In the span of 2 years, his autograph has completely changed! The bottomline is, don't worry so much about what PSA does. You're a huge Boggs collector. Just keep buying Boggs cards and autographs from PSA and be happy about that.

    Don't rock the boat. image

  • Remember, Boggs, it's just their opinion. Nothing more. As far as I am concerned, there is no such thing as an autograph expert. There is no possible way that ANYBODY can be sure that any auto is legit if they did not witness the signing.

While this may seem like a slam against PSA/DNA, it's actually a slam against ALL autograph authenticators. In my mind, autograph authenticators fall into the same category as psychics. It's all bs. Anybody who believes otherwise is a fool, IMO.

  • I agree with coolidge. There is such a strong risk for fraud, I would never collect autographs. Too much screwery. The only Autographed cards I have is a Feller 38 Goudey (PSA/DNA certified, but his signature is a work of art not like most of the slop out there. Bought it for the card, not the auto) and a Nolan Ryan personalized "bloody lip" pic direct from his charity foundation. The only exception I can justify is vintage cancelled checks. Unless the secretary signed it, its much more likely to be legit.

While PSA is considered the leaders, I just don't really care about the whole auto thing. Many people do however judging by the thousands of dollars spent and long lines at card shows. I sinmply cannot believe people are willing to pay nearly $100 for the decent auto guests. $100 for 5 seconds of their time and half the time its a freaking childs scribble. Did I mention at christmas last year Clemens was charging $299? Kicked him down a notch in my book for sure.

I'll file this under another thing I just don't get.
