got my 2nd neg feedback, ebay rating 96% now...

The first neg was because the jerk charged me 100 shipping and in his auction stated shipping was 9.99 so I naturally refused to pay. now I get my 2nd neg feedback and the guy said he never recieved his card (15.00 opc 1980 all-star wayne gretzky psa 8) I know I sent this card to him (i remember when i sent it) why wouldnt the buyer just contact me and say hey i dont have this card im going to neg you if you dont send it, I mean 15 bucks I would have just issued him a refund and called it a day. 15 bucks and a neg for a psa 8 1980 opc wayne gretzky all-star card is no good trade at all...

What do you guys think about this.....

edit to say that i dont believe in retalitory feedback so I will not issue him a neg but rather a pos because he did pay me in a timely manner.

You sound like an honest guy and you have done nothing wrong in either instances....

but as a general rule on ebay, when I see a seller with 96 percent rating, I usually would not bid. If a 96 percent bidder bids on one of my auctions, I usually email the guy to make sure he's legit.
  • that sucks. I usually pay the .55 or so for delivery confirmation. That way I know as a seller that I have proof of sending the package to the person. Yeh that doesnt seem right that the person leaves negative feedback without trying to resolve the issue first.

You email someone if he has 96% feedback? 96% means he stands by his word 24 out of 25 times.

It stinks. I'd like to see ebay have some sort an appeal process for negative feedback, anything. It would give decent people a chance to erase negs left by hotheads or retaliatory negs.

  • He should have e-mailed you first but that's life. Basiccly all my negs are from non-paying bidders !! Either after filing a non-paying bidder alert to get my listing fee back or i rated them negative because ontop of not paying they never even answered one e-mail !! If somebody wins one of my auctions and if i at least get a response saying they have changed there mind then i wouldn't give them a neg but i would tell them that i have to file a non-paying bidder credit. Or sometimes i will send a second chance offer if the second chance offer is reasonable that is. More people on e-bay have to start giving more non-paying bidders negatives. I find people with high ratings are the worse for this because they know that you yourself don't want a negative. But i do it anyway !!!

Hang in....looks like 2 BS negs. Heed the advice on the delivery confirmation. Helping protect your FB rating is worth the small investment. Regards.

DirtyHarry, you can pay for Delivery Cnfirmation and some AHoles will still leave Negative FB. I don't bother for small items but do insist on required insurance.

That stinks. But I have said it before. My shipping charges include insurance so I can avoid this type of problem. I don't even give them a chance to choose insurance or not. This even goes for auctions under $10.00. Best of luck.

Bob's approach is probably the best to CYA and the buyer all around.
If a nutjob is going to neg you without any communication, he'll do it even if a Brink's truck delivers his purchase.

Definitely leave him a negative. He did not proceed in a businesslike manner with this transaction, he should have contacted you several times to see whether the card got returned to you or what the situation was. LEAVE HIM A NEGATIVE, THEN OFFER TO REFUND HIM AND MUTUALLY RETRACT BOTH NEGATIVES! I had a guy leave a negative for a $10 purchase I made where he didn't send an invoice, I paid on the 4th day, called and told him that he was out of his mind and why didn't he call, and he retracted the negative. Hope this helps....

Does eBay charge a fee for mutual retraction?
  • This is why I hate selling nominal items on ebay. You can sell a $3000 card then get a neg on a $8 card. I would reply to the negative "$15 card, buyer states lost in mail, offered refund neg'd anyway"

This is also why I charge a bit more for shipping and everyone gets delivery confirmation with a bubble mailer, and insurance is required for anything over $50.

live and learn. plenty if dipshiits out there!

Personally I would give him a neutral stating "quick to neg states 'lost in mail' SELLERS BEWARE"

$100 to ship what? A piano?

I don't know what you bought, but a card or cards worth several thousand dollars can be shipped via insured registered mail, tracking every step of the way, for $15 or less.
  • The $100 shipping is crazy, but standard UPS ground with 1,000 in insurance is nearly $20. $1.50 per 100 plus ground rates. USPS is cheaper, but you can't send a card worth "several thousands of dollars" fully insured for $15 counting packing materials, etc... OT I know, sorry

Give the guy a negative. Buyers not only need to pay for the item but also need to be able to handle any problems that come up in a professional manner and at a minimum communicate a problem to the seller. He should have given you an opportunity to resolve the problem. Giving him a negative is the only way you will have negotiating power for both of you to agree to drop the negative.

mine is 96.9% because I had 222 positive and 7 negs but 4 or 5 of the negs are from NRU or members with negative scores who left it right after the auction. So I should be like 98 or 99%. I have noticed a lot of respected sellers and power sellers buy the $.01 feedback type auctions all the time just to make up for the ignorant feedbacks that drop their score.

Several people above talk about getting insurance on all cards. I find the cost of postal insurance excessive and would rather self-insure. Additionally, it doesn't sound like postal insurance would have stopped this guy from getting a neg!?

Sorry about your last neg. I always pay extra for delivery confirmation.

Leave him a negative and then request a mutual retraction. Sometimes you have to stoop down to a lower level to get results. I just did this myself and it worked.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
