1971 Topps PSA 7+ Set Complete!

I just added my last card (a #382 Jake Gibbs PSA 7) yesterday evening. My set took me just under 3 years to complete, has a GPA of 7.34, and cost me about 70% of SMR. I sure am glad the sucker is finally at 100% 'cause I was really getting burnt out on it. Seriously doubt that I will take on another set of the same size (e.g., 752 cards) for quite a while. Eventually, I will be upgrading some of the set (e.g., the high numbers, stars, Orioles and Reds), but that is a very low priority for me right now. Anyways, just thought I would share my excitement. My listing on the registry includes a scan of every card for your viewing pleasure. My Set.

Special thanks goes out to: Augustaman for our many trades, Gaspipe26 for selling me the Gibbs, and SJeanBlanc for sending me some raw versions of the final few cards that I needed.

Mike

A great accomplishment. I can only imagine the pride you are feeling now that your set is complete! Take some time off to enjoy! You won't be burned for too long.

I am at only 28% in my endeavor with a mid-size submission pending so I look at you with envy. I am FAR from burned out but I am sure that is part of the process.

    Wow very, very nice.

I am about 25% into my 1971 set, and it's been a long, long road so far.

    Congrats!

  • Mike,

Congratulations, that is one tough set to complete in PSA 7+. Lots of low pop PSA 8's as well as hundreds of cards with no PSA 9's. Glad I could aid you in your quest. image

    Way to go Mike !!!!!
I know how hard you've worked on your
set during the past couple of years and I'm
glad we have been able to help each other
out along the way. You've created one beautiful
set and I love all the scans you've included.

I only graded a couple of 71's in my 1000 card submission, I'm happy I had the Gibbs as one of them
  • Congrats Mike. I know you have been pushing hard to complete this monster. I'm 4 cards away and am getting very antsy. Hey Augustaman, Gaspipe! Can either of you guys get me to the promised land? I need card #'s 382, 635, 697, and 722 in either PSA 7 or 8.

Congrats! That is quite an accomplishment! I have been working on my 71 set in 7 or better for well over the past three years and I am just over 50% complete. I wish I could get it done that quick. I know what you mean by burn out. I have hit it a couple of times with my set. I agree with you too that to try another monster set would be just plain madness. Congrats again!
  • I love that set. I am glad you uploaded pics too, its definately a treat to peruse those cards. A great looking set! Congrats!

    Fabfrank,
If #635 is Bobby Murcer, I have one at PSA right now that I'm hoping is a 9, but probrably an 8.

    Bob
  • Gaspipe- I am defintely interested, PLMK when you get it back. I can't afford a 9, but if it's an 8, I want it.
    Thanks, Frank

Congrats on the accomplishment! Thanks for including the great scans...especially of the variations. I wish more people would include both versions when applicable.

    Great job!
  • I am still looking for some of the variations to complete my master set. Just picked up the #123 Checklist (Orange Helmet) in PSA 7. That gives me all three variations of that checklist. Also have a real nice #306 Jim Nash with the Blob in raw form which I will be getting graded and I think will get either a PSA 7 or 8. Eventually, I want to get a 1971 Topps Master set added to the registry. Thanks to everyone for the congrats.
