A QUIZ - GARLAND SIGNATURE - ANSWER REVEALED

Hi All,

here is vintage blue autograph album page, signed in faded red ink "Judy Garland" and dated in another hand "1964". The form is correct for the period. Is this a poor forgery or an authentic in person signature? Why?

This is a poor forgery (although better than most that sell on eBay image ). Any guesses why?

OK - I'm paying attention.....because she stopped signing with a capital "G" around 1944....and this is dated 1964.
Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!
  • Hi,
actually, this is a small "g" - imagine the large 3 pointed "G" we learned to write cursively in school. Thaty was what she was using until 1944. This forgery has many characetr formation problems, and does not appear to be by a left handed person. The "d" in "Garland" is also very incorrect - it should connect with the underline by 1964. Overall, the drawn look, hesitance (see the "r") and both "l's" are wrong. Thanks!!
