What does a card grade that is missing paper?

    Can be up to 3 with paper loss.

    That is not a very good looking card, although I certainly wouldn't mind owning it.

    How did that card get a two, when the Mantle with staple holes(that was posted here about a week ago) only got a 1? No doubt the Mantle was a better looking card. Different standards for different cards? Seems very BVG to me. Oh well that card in a one would still be better then any card I will ever own.

    That was for you bud! That 1 was the best looking 1 I had ever seen. Maybe the scale is backwards!!!lol

    Actually that is from my personal collection...
    My husband has a heart attakc while remodeling our basement. When my Mom found out, she died too. When we went to Grandma's attic to find the proper burial outfits, we stumbled on this card in a VERY OLD BOX, so it must be real.

    Did I leave anything out?

    My understanding is that a pinhole equals a 1 no matter how good the card is.

    ...which is insane. Isn't visual appeal relevant at some point. If somebody poked a pin through the Gretzky/McNall Wagner, wouldn't you pay more for it than you would for the PSA 2 abomination shown above?

    A pinhole always gets graded more harshly then rounded corner. The latter are formed over time whilea pin hole is more damaging to the card. All cards wear differently and are also abused differently. The old adage buy the card works both ways. certain times a card can have great eye appeal and get a 1 or 2 and in some cases we have seen a 5 all for a slight imperfection. Certain flaws drive a card to the lowest grade according to the standards. Others can have different flaws and achieve a higher overall grade. No 2 cards are alike, each will have its own strenghts and weaknesses.

    As for the Wagner in question. I can see that the card could grade the 2 it got, I assume it has no creases and the back is decent? If so a 2 is not farfetched. The only flaws are the rounded corners and if they are from honest wear.....

    That top right corner looks trimmed, then purposefulyy rounded probably long ago. Seriously, how can a corner be so worn that it irregularly intrudes well into the picture of the card? You would think if this was honest wear... all the edges would have heavy fraying and paper layering and the card would be heavily creased. I saw this card at the chicago show and the surface simply looks too good considering the extreme corner wear to imply the corner or corners have not been trimmed. Either way, this card even when trimmed is still encapsulated by PSA as authentic, so I think it gets special treatment.

    Actually, I just don't get the extreme pricing on this card. Isn't there over 3 dozen of them? I know its demand, but I think I'd rather have a maggie error or the plank, the 33 lajoie, etc... then dump it all for the one wagner. maybe its just me...
