Fake 1953 Mantle

Seattle guy is at it again! He's already been suspended as "casanumero," and has ripped off several folks as "jrsey12." Now he's "jwideawake." and someone is going to get taken for that Mantle card.

Well, if I had a Mint 1953 Mantle, Pro Choice is certainly where I'd send it for grading. Those dang Pro Lifers get on my nerves. Mine was only NM, so I sent it to some kitchen-table grader called PSA.

This one bugs me more than the dime-a-dozen 1952 Mantle scams, because I happen to LOVE the 1953 Topps Mick and the scummy scammers have pretty much left it alone so far.

<< <i> I guarantee this card is 100% authentic and un-altered in any way or your money back! >>

Tommy: The point is, how do you know the Guarantee Fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy, but we're not buying it. Next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser and your daughter's knocked up, I seen it a hundred times.

Ted: But why do they put a guarantee on the box then?

Tommy: Because they know all they solda ya was a guaranteed piece of sh*t. That's all it is. Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for right now, for your sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality item from me.

And who, exactly, are you referring to?

He's not gonna give it up until people stop bidding on his bogus auctions.

I assume his 51 is authentic since it is BVG.
  • Allen youre right about the 51" I was referencing the 53" topps.

Even if the '51 Mantle is in a BVG holder, I wouldn't trust a guy whose main gig is scamming newbies with reprints. Not to mention whose feedback is poor and kept private. I suspect some of those negs say: "Fraud! He sent me a reprint! Beware!"

Maybe the real '51 Mantle is a bait-and-switch. Show a real one and send a roughed-up reprint in a cracked holder that he can claim USPS broke? Then get the real one graded again? His other auctions make me imagine all sorts of unscrupulous methods.

This line is pretty funny: "Everyone knows that Beckett is by far the toughest grader out there."

Maybe the people who just fell off the turnip truck and are bidding on his stuff might believe that. And that's who he's talking to.

As for the '53 Mantle, it's just silly that someone would bid $2500 on a card he indicates may not be authentic. A PSA 7 version of that card costs only a little more than that! Gotta be shill bids knocking it up so high.

Edited to add: Yup, it's a zero-feedback bidder. Why did I even bother to check?

OK, guys. Educate this newby. Earlier there was a long thread about a guy who got scammed by a fake Mantle in a PSA holder. The buyer said that the PSA cert number checked out and everything, although the cert number is now discontinued. So why would you assume that this particular '51 Mantle is authentic based on the fact that it appears to be in a legitimate grading holder?
