Real copper (bronze?) cents in 2009?
Cool!
Page 18 of NN recently stated that two bills in congress and one in senate are calling for 4 different (2009) cents with the same composition as that of the 1909 released cent.
I think this is awsome, none of those plated abortions.
I still wish (but doubt that anyone will listen) that there would be a V.D.B. and a commemorative large cent released in 2009.
Seems there could be several different ways to celebrate Mr. Brenners venerable design, as well as Mr. Lincoln's 200th anniversary (perhaps I have the importance of those two reversed, but being a collector, you know what's more important to me).
I'm really hyped about the change to all coinage we are seeing. Been a long time coming, but much appreciated and collected with interest.

One has to suspect that the days of these toxic little slugs are numbered. Zinc
prices have been soaring since the mint claimed to make a tiny profit on the pro-
duction of pennies. This claim itself is high suspect since cents account for a huge
share of mint costs and dimes were reported to cost nearly 2 1/2 cents a piece
despite a similar cost for metal. Now the mint is losing substantial amounts on
each cent and every indication is that production may soar due to the loss of old
one cent coins in circulation caused by the soaring price of copper.
This could be great for Lincoln collectors but is sure to focus some attention on the
zinc cents. Many of these get little attention because they tend to still be abun-
dent. What is overlooked is that the early dates were not made well and choice
coins were made in tiny numbers. Add in the fact that many of these coins have
corroded over the years and it means there can be very few nice collections of these.
time will till
you had better start buying your gem proof full red matte proof 1909 (p) lincolns now this along with the 2009 coin will be a fantastic stand alone set
and i might add that the four reverses they want to do proposed for 2009 are four aspects of lincolns life maybe the log cabin he was born in etc. etc.
and all in the original bronze and with the master hub they used in 1909 too so the coin woulds be almost the same as a 1909 other than having the new 2009 date on it
lets write our congressman and get this passed!!!
and start buying those gem full red matte proof 1909 (p) lincolns
