Weekend picture post

Remember these , where we would all post our newps in one thread? What an eye candy, let me start this week, as I have a lot of free time ,today is Independence day in Greece.

I got two nice parcels this week, the first one from Civitas. It contained

1)a magnificent and rare Egyptian gold coin ,to which this photo really doesn't do justice. It's only 12mm, so any hairlines or other distractions are just not there when the coin is in hand without a magnifier, and it has great luster. I'm super happy with it, my first gold purchase after a very long time. image

EGYPT Abdul Hamid Ottoman Empire AH 1293, year 16 (1891)--#WC11139
AV 5 Qirsh 12mm. 0.42g. al-Qahira (Cairo) mint

Reform Coinage

Toughra.

Islamic inscription.

KM 298

Brilliant Uncirculated. Probably MS-65. Rare, unlisted date.

2) China, Manchoukuo. 1939 Fen. Y #6 in KM. BU ,toned and choice.

My latest love affair is with Chinese copper. If Josh tells me what happened to his great photo of it, I'll be delighted to share it, for the moment here's a nice red x from the auction. image

The second parcel was from JamminJ. It contained a very scarce in high grades, 1957 1 drachma NGC MS64, and these wonderful Chinese coppers:

Again here, the (very good) photos don't even come close . These coins are simply stunning in hand, thank you James. image

There was a third parcel I was expecting, but it's not here yet. image

So, let's see some more new coins!

Not a NEWP, but a NEWF. (New Freebie).

    Thanks, WhiteLighnin! image

1693 William and Mary Irish halfpenny. My first Irish coin for the vest, and the oldest Irish piece that I have had, despite being an Irish coin enthusiast for some time.

Yeah, you're right. And if there are any nice high grade ones with holes in them, I'm there, baby! image

But so far I have only seen one or two... and they have managed to elude my grasp. image

No...This Goetz medal was designed and executed in the tradional German Portrait Medal style by Karl Goetz...the obverse contains the portrait of the subject and the reverse contains some quality or ability of the subject person. In this case, the person is Karl's son Guido Goetz. who was a medal maker and sculptor. 'Plastik' is relating to or dealing with shaping or modeling: the plastic art of sculpture.

These two with Goetz's family are very simple and elegant Scott. Is the second a sort of recognition of his young son's talents? This PLASTIK inscription had me thinking for some time too.

Here are a few recent additions to my personal collection:

    image
I like Ottoman coinage and this one jumped out at me. Nice, original skin with excellent underlying luster. They're tough to find nice but when you do they're cheap!

    image
An addition to my German Imperial type set. Exceptionally nice but unfortunately has some carbon spots on teh reverse. I may let the pros at NCS have a look to see if they can get the spots off.

    image
Cool error, I doubt the reverse dies lasted much longer. That it's an exceptionally nice coin is even better.

    image
Spent more than a year looking for an uncirculated coin of this tye and paid dearly when I found it. Still can't seen to get a nice picture.

    image
So old and cool I'll overlook the fact that it's not mint state. Archduke Sigusmund of Austria, 6 kreuzer from the Hall mint. Undated but struck in the late 1400s.

Wow, this one is very impressive. Fantastic clash marks, in Germany we call this Error "Lichtenrader Prägung."

    That's a neat 5 DM, Udo.
I've never seen one with toning like that - it looks just like bag toned Morgan dollars. Is color like that fairly common on those coins?

Since you like die clashes I have a Hannover copper coin with a good one, I'll post a picture tonight.image

These colors are unusual and seldom seen on this type. Normally these coins have a light grey, golden or brown toning. I found this coin at a coinshow in Karlsruhe and the dealer had about 20 coins with that unusual toning.

I think it is a result of how the coins were stored. They have average grades, but due to the colors I couldn't resist and bought five of them.

    Here is another one:
